Are you ready to beam with P-R-I-D-E? Beaming with Pride highlights songs by LGBTQ musicians and allies, offering background, analysis, and discussion of the decadent bops served up. All music genres are welcome. Songs, old and new, are welcome as well. So, without further ado, in the 94th edition of Beaming with Pride (2026), we highlight “Goodbye To A Lover Again” performed by Isak Danielson.

“If I’m so cruel, so immature / Then someday, I’m bound to burn.” At least Isak Danielson owns it… or the character he portrays. “Goodbye To A Lover Again” is a classic case of one-sided love.  Unrequited love is the worst, and yet, it makes for epic songs. What makes this unrequited love song different is that it’s from the lens of the person who isn’t giving the love… or so it seems for much of the song. It seems like our queer Swedish singer-songwriter isn’t feeling this person. It happens. Danielson and Simon Strömstedt composed the brief but potent song. Agrin Rahmani produced it.

Isak Danielson impresses with expressive, heartfelt, and sincere vocals.  The melodies are radiant while the lyrics are memorable and thought-provoking. In the first verse, Danielson admits, “I don’t want to hear / Everything you feel.” Uh-oh! He adds, “Just keep me warm, unaware of the storm.” Hmm… At the end of the second verse, he asks, “How don’t you know that I love on the go?”  The third and fourth verses continue to compel.  There is escapism in the third: “On my way to Paris / To find it again, this love has no end.” In the fourth verse, there’s a chance… not now, however: “In another lifetime / You could be my world, and I could be your girl.” What stands out about the final verse is the gender… Using girl instead of boy opens another realm of possibilities about the dynamics of this relationship or lack thereof; it’s genius. The chorus, the crème de la crème, sums up this unrequited love perfectly:

“I called you a cab

It’s outside the door

You’re falling in love, and I’m already bored

I’ll help with the bags

Act like a friend

I’ll say goodbye to a lover again.”

“Goodbye To A Lover Again” is brief – only about 2:20! But it’s incredibly sweet.  If you’ve experienced unrequited love, you can relate to this record.  The reference to being someone’s girl, from a queer man’s perspective, adds another layer.
