Icona Pop, I Love It | 1 Hit WONDERful

In the 38^th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we highlight “I Love It” by Swedish duo Icona Pop featuring Charli xcx.

It only takes ONE hit to solidify a musical legacy 💯! On 1 Hit WONDERful, we highlight songs that were the SOLE hit by a given musician.  It is possible that the artists appearing on this list earned a minor hit or two, BUT for the most part, that ONE hit earned them recognition. So, in the 38^th edition of 1 Hit WONDERful (2026), we dive into “I Love It”, the one-hit wonder by Icona Pop.

Swedish 🇸🇪 pop duo Icona Pop (Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt) ‘did their big one’ in 2013. “I Love It,” featuring a future Grammy winner, Charli xcx, was a BIG DEAL. It is the opener from their gold-certified sophomore album, THIS IS… ICONA POP. Their sole charting song in the U.S. peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. Impressive! It was certified multi-platinum (5x) by the Recording Industry Association of America. Also, impressive! Charli xcx, Linus Eklöw, and Patrik Berger wrote “I Love It.” Berger produced it.  Aino and Caroline share lead vocals; Charli provides background vocals.

“I Love It” is ‘on ten’ from the jump – no cap! The ladies serve up assertive sounds: a thumping, relentless, danceable beat, hard-nosed synths, and colorful keys.  The vocals ‘keep the same energy’: assertive, energetic, and in-your-face.  Also, the distortion effect is full force. Lyrically, Icona Pop and Charli xcx don’t hold back.  The pre-chorus is the first section heard:

“I got this feelin’ on the summer day when you were gone

I crashed my car into the bridge, I watched, I let it burn

I threw your shit into a bag and pushed it down the stairs

I  crashed my car into the bridge.”

Oh, snap! From there, the infectious, unforgettable chorus follows.  Simple but effective, the ladies assert, “I don’t care, I love it / I don’t care.” Noted. Most of the sections of the song are repeated, including the sole verse.  The attitude and personality continue to shine, with IP singing, “You’re so damn hard to please, we gotta kill this switch / You’re from the ‘70s, but I’m a ‘90s bitch.” Woo! All told, “I Love It” is a once-in-a-lifetime, electronic smash for Icona Pop.  The music speaks for itself, and – wait for it – I LOVE IT!!!
