Alternative singer-songwriter hemlocke springs delivers a divine, incredibly enticing single with “gloria!”

 

Intriguing lyrics! Those lyrics come from “gloria!”, the enticing, post-the apple under the tree single from alternative singer-songwriter hemlocke springs (Isimeme “Naomi” Udu). Springs wrote “gloria!”; She produced it with Steph Marziano.  The results are nothing short of glorious!

“Gloria!” begins with colorful, warm, dreamy sounds. The first verse is percussion-less. The keys and synths are exquisite. Hemlocke springs delivers beautiful vocals. “When the music comes, then I am answering the tone,” she sings near the end of the verse, and continues, “Then the music dies, and I am on my own.” After the remarkable first verse, a danceable groove takes over. The guitars add beefiness in the second verse. The melodies continue in their tuneful glory, which springs performs with ease (“The truth will abide for the warriors tonight / So come on, sing along as the choir people go”). The assertive, operatic vocals that grace the chorus kick “gloria!” up a notch.  I love how theatrical she becomes.

The theatrical vibes continue in the bridge, where “They think they have the upper hand / But you’ll never wander.” Word! The outro, which sounds similar to the verses, concludes “gloria!” Ultimately, “gloria!” is a fantastic single by hemlocke springs.  Great vocals, memorable songwriting (lyrically and melodically), and marvelous production make the song a winner.
