What’s Le Bone’s identity and what makes it unique?

Chaotic charm and tangential humor as a defining trait. The members describe their uniqueness as a tendency to veer into tangents and dodge direct answers, leaving audiences more confused and curious. Dave jokes their appeal is making people ask, “Why are they so enthusiastic and so terrible at the same time?” Jason sums it up: we’re quirky, play weird music, and embrace absurdity. How did the band form and what is the backstory? [Jason, Alex & Dave]

Origins in a previous band and early collaborations. Le Bone emerged from Jason and Alex’s time in Frantic Empire, a mid 2000s thrash metal band, which eventually dissolved. Alex had been writing new material, and Jason, inspired, was keen to start something fresh with Alex. The early project was initially called “Come Shot Calypso,” a name coined at a pub around 2010–2012 — their “Glory Whole” years, which became the title of their debut album. They produced the first album during this period, followed by a hiatus primarily due to Jason pursuing other endeavors.

Reformation around 2020–2021 and Dave joining the band. The band reformed roughly three and a half years prior to the interview (around late 2021), following COVID. Dave was recruited after Jason’s first choice for bass, Rob, who was also a previous bandmate from a previous project, declined — Miriam, a synth player and flautist (and Jason’s wife), also joined. Dave was eventually won over by the new material, particularly its Devin-influenced sound, and agreed to join. A milestone music video, “Summit,” is noted as being about one year old at the time of the interview.

Release the second album and build a fanbase. The immediate goal is completing and releasing the second album, Pink and Brown, scheduled for September 12, 2026. Beyond that, Jason aims to build a loyal following, grow live attendance, and keep releasing Alex’s body of work. Dave jokes the goal has shifted from releasing one album to releasing three or four at once, reflecting the volume of Alex’s material.

Enjoyment and authenticity over commercial ambition. Le Bone don’t expect to “change the world,” but they’re committed to enjoying the process and staying true to their DIY ethos. Jason emphasizes quality over quantity and a grounded perspective on their place in music. What are some memorable Live Performances and Tour Stories? [Jason, Alex & Dave]

Playing at a venue that felt like a drug dealer’s spot.  A wacky highlight: performing at a venue that felt like a drug dealer’s depot, with people constantly coming and going, not there for the music. Mid-set, Alex misheard a request for Oasis and Westlife and briefly considered walking off stage. They look back with humor, finding comedy in the absurdity. 

Fairy lights and on-stage mishaps. Another moment: Alex got fairy lights tangled in his guitar strings mid-song. These unpredictable, chaotic incidents are worn as badges of honor — fitting the band’s identity of leaning into chaos and imperfection.

What are some of your favorite Songs you’ve recorded or performed Live? [Alex, Jason & Dave]

“Let’s Piss” as a fan-favorite live closer.

All three highlight “Let’s Piss” as a standout, especially live. It’s always saved for the end and “goes down a storm.” Despite initial doubts about performing it — with a black metal riff, an ’80s-style verse, a metal breakdown chorus, intricate fingerpicking, a prog section, and a trumpet solo — their energy carries it. It’s funny, high-tempo, and a crowd favorite.

“Summit” as a technically impressive favorite.

Jason is fond of “Summit,” calling it a “cracking song” and noting its technical demands. Dave and Jason debate whether “Summit” or “Let’s Piss” is more complex; Dave argues “Let’s Piss” is more layered due to its multiple distinct sections. Both are catalog and live-set highlights, and “Summit” had a music video released about a year before this interview.

What are some secret talents and surprising facts about the band? [Jason & Dave]

Jason’s cabaret pole dancing moment

Jason recounts an embarrassing, funny moment at a cabaret/burlesque event where, after drinking, he volunteered to dance around poles, doing John Cleese-style walks and hamming it up, to the bemusement of friends including Miriam. A video exists. He’s slightly embarrassed but shares it with good humor, contrasting with his more professional interview-host persona.

Dave’s latex catwalk appearances at sex industry events

Dave has walked multiple catwalks for latex designer Catriona Stewart, including at a mansion sex party and a large sex industry exhibition at a Manchester arena. He wore a latex kilt and shirt, and also did leather kink segments with other designers. He jokes that despite the attention, social awkwardness kept him from further interactions. Jason also notes Alex is a gifted visual artist, skilled at lifelike portraits, currently on hiatus due to home renovations.

The band is finishing and promoting their second album, Pink and Brown — eight tracks, about forty-five minutes — due 09/12/2026. Their unconventional strategy: releasing individual songs as demo

singles over several years to maintain social presence, with the full album as the polished culmination. An album launch party is planned. Alex wrote, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered everything independently — fully DIY, with no AI involvement.

Third album already in development.

Even before the second album’s release, a third album is in progress, with songs in demo form and currently untitled. This reflects the band’s prolific output and Alex’s continued momentum, underscoring Jason’s point about a steady stream of releases and a clear, if casual, long-term plan.
