Getting to Know... Dialekt: Interview #76 [Photo Credit: Brent Faulkner, Dialekt, The Musical Hype]On the 76th interview on the Musical Hype, members Mat Augustyniak and Matt Haynes provide insight into their intriguing band, Dialekt.

“We are also not closed to only one genre and mixing and matching this together is really good fun and results in pretty interesting compositions.” Bassist Mat Augustyniak honestly characterizes Dialekt, the UK nu metal/post grunge/ metalcore band featured on the 76th interview in the Getting to Know… series on The Musical Hype. In addition to Mat, Dialekt is comprised of Matt Haynes (vocals), who also contributes answers in this interview, Mariano (guitar), and Jamie Beaumont (drums).  Mat and Matt provide background on the collective, as well goals, influences, and favorite songs as of yet. Without any further chatter, why don’t you check out Getting to Know… Dialekt: Interview #76 for yourself!

Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Mat: I think delivering our music as best as we can is what describes us. We tend to practice a lot to make sure every show is at maximum level we can do. We are also not closed to only one genre and mixing and matching this together is really good fun and results in pretty interesting compositions.

Awesome! Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Dialket form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

Matt: Oddly, ‘juicy’ never really came into it. We’re not childhood friends, we haven’t married into each other’s families. It’s all pretty organic but we have become sort of brothers in a way.

Mat: Mariano, our guitarist is the founder of the band. While there were a lot of lineup changes along the way, the current squad is definitely the best we had, and we hope to stay that way for the years to come.

Matt: Definitely. The sound we have just works.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Mat: From the beginning we always wanted this to be a serious band that might become our way of life, not just a way spent jamming and having fun. A few years later this is still the idea which drives us now.

Matt: Yeah, nothing ever changes. We do still have fun, but ultimately the goal is to leave our mark.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Matt: Personally, there are a lot of different influences. We’ve all come to the band with different palates. My gateway was early nu metal and emo. I think Mariano is the same actually, but I listened to a lot more punk and alternative in the early days too. Jamie is bringing punk too, but alongside some pretty technical metal stuff.

Mat: There’s too many to mention all of them but surely some metal classics coming in, from Iron Maiden and Metallica between golden nu-metal era and into the Swedish metal bands like In Flames or Children of Bodom.

Dialekt [Photo Credit: Dialekt]Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Mat: Well, on one of our first gigs we literally blew up the stage. There was quite a delay that day and a lot of bands to squeeze in and because of that we had to play without the sound check. Two songs later we heard a loud bang and all the electronics died. This was fixed quite quickly but I guess this was a valuable lesson for both us and organizers.

Matt: We were gutted about that. Only got to play three songs but actually that’s all it took to impress the rep from HRH Radio who heard us and gave us his card.

Mat: It worked out pretty nice. We still get played on there too.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Mat: I think my fave would be our first single called “The Fight.” While this might be less complex than our later songs, I really like the dynamic of the intro and the fact that it kinda defines the whole band with mixture of fast and slower riffs, some clean guitars and great solo.

Matt: “Underwater” has got to be my favourite. Yeah it comes away from our foundations a little bit but there are still some Nu Metal elements in there. For me it’s just a strong track with a powerful message

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Mat: Our vocalist before joining us has been a drummer in a different band. Oh, and he owns a keytar – we might utilize it at some point and see if we can introduce some different flavor.

Matt: Actually, one of our charity gigs saw me drumming with a friend’s band before coming on with Dialekt after a one band break. Got a lot of weird looks that day… Going to get a ton more with a keytar over my shoulder.

Closing this thing out, what is Dialekt currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Mat: Well, being in the middle of pandemic means all our plans had to go to a halt but we do work on some new material during the downtime.

Matt: Some of the best stuff we’ve made, I think. We’re also in talks with a couple of people about some pretty exciting stuff but if we told you, we’d have to kill you haha! Just keep an eye out on social media and your favourite streaming sites for updates.

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

Matt: Thanks for having us.
