Grammy-winning rapper Future remains consistent on “Radio,” the enjoyable lead single from his 10th studio album, The Real Me.
“Radio” keeps things relatively brief – just over two-and-a-half minutes. It commences with the chorus, excerpted above. From there, Future drops the song’s sole verse. It’s lengthy, performed in signature, melodic Future fashion. As usual, the rapper drops some ear-catching rhymes, including “The biggest nigga here in town, even when I’m not in town / A lot of niggas want the spot when I don’t even want the crown,” “Niggas don’t respect when you humble, just keepin’ it G / Hoes comin’ for inspirations, it’s not what it seems,” and near the end of the verse, asserts, “Bitch come through, catch a nigga vulnerable at the right time / I put you down on some real shit without even tryin’.” Following the verse, there is a brief bridge – “I ain’t too much got to do no explain’ of what’s goin’ on” – before the return of the chorus and the outro, an extension of the chorus. “Radio” doesn’t feel like a tour de force for Future, but was a tour de force necessary at this point? No. He’s carved out plenty of success for himself, and this enjoyable song, all told, fits right in.
