Welcome to 5ive Songs, where we keep things short and sweet – no extra calories or needless fluff! There’s a theme/topic, five songs, and a short blurb.  Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  On the 25th editions of 5ive Songs, 2021, we select five songs that are associated with the word FREAK in some form or fashion.  Okay, let’s get into it!

1. Tyga & Megan Thee Stallion, “FREAK”

🎵 “FREAK” • 🏷 Last Kings / Columbia • 📅 2020

Tyga & Megan Thee Stallion, "FREAK" [📷: Last Kings / Columbia]“I need a freak, freak, freak / to rub my hair, hair, hair / I need a freak every day of the week / With her legs in the air, air, air…” WHOA!  Tyga tapped Megan Thee Stallion for 🎵 “FREAK”, easily one of the nastiest, shallowest, sexed-up bangers of 2020. Tyga definitely thinks with his penis, dropping filthy XXX lines such as “Swallowin’ the meat, mmm, tell me if it’s sweet,” “I like a freak, woo, do it in the car, leave cum on the seat,” or “Open up your door, I got a big ass key…” On the third verse, what he serves up with his ‘dong’ is so good, well, he has a “House full of hoes, you could only imagine.”

As for Megan Thee Stallion, she isn’t to be outdone.  She asserts, “I can do a trick you ain’t know make you cum.” Of course, there’s additional carnality, such as “You ain’t eatin’, what you here for? Baby, I’m a nympho,” and “Real freaks don’t trip, they cum and then dip…” Wow! Beyond the sexual poetry, worth mentioning is the production by 🎛 Mustard and 🎛 Pliznaya, which gives this raunch, ratchet, ultra-freaky joint a lift.

2. Lil Dicky, “Freaky Friday”

Ft. Chris Brown

🎵 “Freaky Friday” • 🏷 Commission Music / BMG Rights Management • 📅 2018

Lil Dicky, Freaky Friday [📷: Commission Music]Simply calling 🎙 Lil Dicky “one of a kind” might be an understatement.  The comedic rapper, who made quite the splash with 2015’s 💿 Professional Rapper, returned with a new single in 2018, 🎵 “Freaky Friday”, assisted by 🏆 Grammy winning R&B artist 🎙 Chris Brown.  The results end up being utterly ridiculous, as both artist trade places (like the movie) and sing/rap about it.

For Lil Dicky specifically, his flow is tight, as always, while his rhymes are absolutely absurd.  The outro may be the most interesting part, where “Freaky Friday” gets really freaky, involving 🎙 Ed Sheeran, 🎙 DJ Khaled, and most hilariously (or disturbingly), 🎙 Kendall Jenner.

3. Megan Thee Stallion, “Freaky Girls”

Ft. SZA

💿 Good News • 🏷 300 Entertainment • 📅 2020

Megan Thee Stallion, Good News [📷: 1501 Certified Ent. LLC / 300 Entertainment]🎙 Megan Thee Stallion had a terrific 2020, regarding her musical success, that is. In 2021, she’d become a 🏆 3x Grammy winner – now that’s just awesome.  On 🎵 “Freaky Girls” from her debut studio album, 💿 Good News, she enlists 🏆 Grammy-nominated R&B artist 🎙 SZA for the assist.  The big-name collaboration doesn’t stop there – what about tapping 🎛 Juicy J to produce the track? Woo!

Sex remains off the charts on “Freaky Girls,” obvious when the first words out of Megan’s mouth are “Freaky bitch, I do this, suck it like I’m toothless…” There are more unforgettable, absolutely filthy lyrics with “Bust that pussy wide, let him adventure inside / If my pussy was a beach, he get swept up by the tide” leading the charge.  SZA isn’t ‘clean’ herself on the chorus, providing Thee Stallion with a pretty sweet vocal lift.

4. Ciara, “Freak Me”

Ft. Tekno

💿 Beauty Marks • 🏷 Beauty Marks Entertainment • 📅 2019

Ciara, Beauty Marks [📷: Beauty Marks Entertainment]🎵 “Freak Me” (featuring 🎙 Tekno), arrived in 2018 as an advance single from 💿 Beauty Marks, the 2019 independent album by R&B singer 🎙 Ciara. Like much of Beauty Marks, the production is unique, particularly the mallet percussion parts.  “Freak Me” is fueled from a sample, 🎵 “Before NKO”.  Sample or not, “Freak Me” benefits from its blend of tropical pop, reggae/dancehall, and contemporary R&B.

Give 🎛 JR Rotem the credit he deserves for his work behind the boards. Known more for her vibe than vocal skill (no shade), the same can be said of her performance here. There are some great, smooth vocal harmonies, and the sexiness is potent, even if “Freak Me” isn’t transcendent.

5. Lana Del Rey, “Freak”

💿 Honeymoon • 🏷 Interscope • 📅 2015

Lana Del Rey, Honeymoon [📷: Interscope]“You’re cold as ice, baby / But when you’re nice, baby / You’re so amazing in every way.” 🏆 Grammy nominated singer/songwriter 🎙 Lana Del Rey is a master of concocting dark, mysterious, and strange beauty musically. 🎵 “Freak,” from her 2015 album, 💿 Honeymoon, is no different.

“Baby, if you wanna leave, come to California
Be a freak like me, too
Screw your anonymity, loving me is all you need
To feel like I do...”

In the music video, which features 🎭 Father John Misty, there’s a clear cultish element.  Coupled with the lyrics – particularly the “slow dance to rock music” – there’s the sense that Misty plays a Charles Manson -inspired character.   Del Rey gets some Jim Jones influence in as well, specifically the infamous “Kool aid.”

“We could slow dance to rock music, kiss while we do it
Talk ‘til we both turn blue
Baby, if you wanna leave, come to California
Be a freak like me, too.”
