Scanning the Charts – Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (3/20/21): Drake launches at nos. 1-3 on the Hot 100 with Scary Hours.
SSCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week (📉 Make it 8 Straight for Morgan: Scanning the Charts 📉 No. 10), this column won’t be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that 💩 moving. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations 🔎 from the Billboard 200 📉, and FIVE observations 🔎 from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Drake launching at nos. 1-3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Scary Hours.
Billboard 200 📉
💭 Make it nine straight weeks at no. 1 for 🎙 Morgan Wallen. 💿 Dangerous: The Double Album continues to dominate.
💭 🎙 Chevelle earns the sole debut in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. 💿 Niratias launches at no. 9.
💭 Surprisingly, 🎙 Kings of Leon miss the top 10. 💿 When You See Yourself debuts just outside of it at no. 11.
💭 🎙 Quinn XCII makes a dent on the Billboard 200. 💿 Change of Scenery II starts a no. 69.
💭 The good news for 🎙 Tory Lanez is that he debuts on the Billboard 200. The bad news is, Playboy debuts quite modestly at no. 76. I have no doubt that the infamous 🎙 Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident has hurt his career.
Billboard Hot 100 📉
💭 If nothing else, 🎙 Drake gives Scanning the Charts a much-needed change of storyline. The three songs that make up Scary Hours debut at no. 1, 2, and 3 respectively on the Hot 100 (🎵 “What’s Next”, 🎵 “Wants and Needs” (featuring 🎙 Lil Baby), and 🎵 “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” (featuring 🎙 Rick Ross)).
💭 Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak impact the Hot 100 as Silk Sonic with their superb single, 🎵 “Leave the Door Open”. “Leave the Door Open” debuts at no. 4 right behind the Drake newbies.
💭 🎙 Olivia Rodrigo drops from the top spot of the Hot 100 after spending eighth consecutive week at no. 1. 🎵 “Drivers License” slides to no. 5.
💭 🎙 Justin Bieber earns another debut on the Hot 100 with 🎵 “Hold On” at no. 26. “Hold On” appears on Bieber’s forthcoming album, 💿 Justice (March 21, 2021).
💭 🎙 Maroon 5 and new 🏆 Grammy recipient Megan Thee Stallion take those 🎵 “Beautiful Mistakes” to no. 54 on the Hot 100.
