American-born, Nigerian-bred Nigerian artists Davido and NO11 drop a fun, vibe-laden Afrobeats record with “Gimme Dat Ting.”
The electrifying groove on “Gimme Dat Ting” gets those feet tapping and head nodding instantly. The production and sound are hypnotic. Some colorful musical cues hit the spot. VIBES, I tell you! The “hee(s),” sung by NO11, are enigmatic and – not to sound redundant, but – a surefire vibe! They appear during the intro and recur during the chorus.
“Hee, hee
Hee, hee (That thing)
Hee (Gimme that thing), hee
Hee, hee.”
NO11 and Davido both perform the pre-chorus but sing their parts separately. “‘Cause I’m way too high, ọmọ (Ọmọ) / Me, I wanna feel that vibe, ọmọ,” N011 sings, with David adding, “Me, I can’t lie, I’m faded / Wón ní wón wá mi, baby / I get two vibes wey dey drive me crazy (Baddest) / I just touch down ABJ lane.” Beyond the chorus, NO11 performs the post-chorus and refrain, both of which emphasize the titular lyric. David performs the sole verse, which is confident to the nth degree. “She just needs drip and a couple zeros (Couple zeros) / She rockin’ Casami’, she needs a Hero (Hey),” He sings, and continues, “So fat from my point of view / Feel me hot like say na Cheeto.” Memorably, at the end of his verse, he asserts, “Ginger me, fuck you, pay me / Always active, baby, never lazy / YKB, baby, sé you know ball?” The record concludes with the pre-chorus, with NO11 dominating the chorus, post-chorus, and refrain. All said and done, Davido and NO11 drop a truly fun, vibe-laden Afrobeats record with “Gimme Dat Ting”. Again, vibes, vibes, and more VIBES!
