Do you know what day it is? It is Wednesday, folks! Do you know what that means? Why, it is Wacky Wednesday! In the spirited column, we analyze and explore unique, unusual, or wacky songs from different genres.  These songs can be new or old; the only requirement is that they ‘catch the ear’ because of their distinctiveness.  In the 43rd edition of Wacky Wednesday (2026), we break down the unique “Axel F”, performed by Crazy Frog. Wacky Wednesday vibes commence!

“Ring ding ding ding ding ding / Ring ding ding ding bem bem bem / Ring ding ding ding ding ding.” Word. Erik Wernquist’s Swedish CGI-animated, Eurodance Crazy Frog is hated/renowned for “Axel F.” “Axel F” was not an original, but rather a cover of a 1984 instrumental synth-pop hit from Beverly Hills Cop, written by German musician and producer Harold Faltermeyer (b. 1952).  It’s named Axel F after the character from the movie, Axel Foley.  Also, the original is in the key of F minor.  Crazy Frog’s rendition stalled at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 but was ultimately certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Reinhard Raith, Henning Reith, and Andreas Litterscheid produced CF’s ubiquitous cover.

The video also makes the song bearable and more fun… maybe bearable is pushing it 😂. “Axel F” features sleek electronic production.  The synths are bright, energetic, and in-your-face.  There’s no escaping that rhythmic riff! The pounding beat is inescapable, too.  There is plenty of contrast to Faltermeyer’s original. Crazy Frog opts for a different key, quicker tempo, and those inescapably annoying, nonsensical ‘dinging’ lyrics representing the phone ringing, etc. Ultimately, that Crazy Frog is truly cray-cray, and won’t stop. “Axel F” in CF’s hands – one of one for sure!
