contradash, "blocked" [Photo Credit: contradash]Up and coming artist contradash delivers an intriguing single exploring heartbreak with “blocked,” the follow-up to his debut single, “yo-yo.”

“Tell me how’d I get got / Flip flopped on me / Told me kick rocks / Get lost homie / It’s a sick plot / It flopped on me / Told me get lost, get lost…” That sounds like some relationship drama right there, contradash.  Of course, such drama – excerpted from the intro and outro of the track at hand – is our listening pleasure! Honestly, there’s not a lot of information to be found about contradash as of publication, but he certainly proves to be intriguing on his first single of 2020, “blocked,” produced by Sage Roberge.  At under two-and-a-half-minutes, the up-and-comer keeps things short, but – wait for it – SWEET!

“Blocked” finds Contradash exploring heartbreak – a common, relatable topic.  On the chorus, he provides some context of what he means by ‘blocked’:

“Blocked on everything you could think of
I’ll start with your friends, I’ma keep one
Look at you calling, you always on the creep up
If you ain’t caught it, you lookin’ like you need one.”

Both the verses seem to explore a relationship that’s now extinct, perhaps even short-lived or barely initiated, with its respective issues.  “So, run it by me when it work for you, darlin’ I / Came to tell you what the word is, you drying me out,” he pop-raps on the first verse.  On the second verse, contradash seems to totally accept the fact that break-up, ‘blocking,’ and such was positive, asserting, “I’ve been through it, I’m real cool without you,” and “Dying to fit in around your type / I don’t usually step foot around your type…”

Final Thoughts

“Blocked” is definitely an interesting record, one that certainly makes you curious to see what contradash will release in the future.  I wouldn’t call this a perfect single – sometimes, I would love to hear a bit more oomph in the rapped vocals, with slightly more accurate pronunciation – but there’s definitely something hypnotic about it.  Certainly intriguing.
