Coco Jones, Love Me Through | Song Review

Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter Coco Jones delivers another home run with her soulful single, “Love Me Through.”

Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter Coco Jones is filled with love – the forever kind – on her single, “Love Me Through.” “Love Me Through” arrives after her nuptials with NBA star Donovan Mitchell. Coco Jones, Bridgetown, Jeremy “J Dot” Jones, and Jamona Keeton wrote it. Bridgetown produced it.

“Love Me Through” is set in a lilting, compound duple meter. This contributes to the vintage, old-school vibes. The backdrop could be described as updated and throwback-sounding: a great electronic sound palette with an awesome beat. Coco Jones brings it, delivering nuanced, rich, and ultra-soulful vocals. All told, she has a brilliant instrument in her hands. The theme: love to infinity and beyond! “I can’t help but go hard for your love,” she sings in the first verse, and adds, “Scared me to death ‘cause it’s so good.” Ooh-wee! The chorus is the crowning achievement. It is memorable lyrically and melodically.

“A blessing, you know we can’t lose

This ain’t no fairytale love

With no cameras on

This is real life, right now

Good, bad, and ugly

But he’s still gon’ love me.”

The bridge marks one of my favorite sections. It’s related but distinguishes itself from the verses and chorus. “Through the shit your aunty said behind my back (Through) / Through the exes in our phones, we don’t respond to that (Through),” she sings expressively and continues, “It’s the hardest thing we’ll ever do / Good, bad, and ugly / Are you still gon’ love me?” Ultimately, “Love Me Through” is a home run for Jones.  This is the way R&B should sound, PERIOD.
