Camila Cabello, Romance [Photo Credit: Epic]After announcing her sophomore album, Romance, Grammy-nominated pop artist Camila Cabello released a thrilling sixth single, “Living Proof.”

Camila Cabello has been busy throughout 2019.  To date, the Grammy-nominated pop artist has released six singles in 2019.  That of course, doesn’t include collaborations where she was a featured artist and not the lead artist.  The aforementioned six singles include “Living Proof,” which arrives with the official announcement of her sophomore album, Romance (December 6, 2019).  Great way to usher in the holiday season, right? Right.

“Living Proof” appears as the second track on Romance, following the previously issued single, “Shameless”.  “Living Proof” is produced by Mattman & Robin, and features songwriting by the likes of Ali Tamposi and Justin Tranter.  Focusing on the production first, this is a sleek, urban pop joint.  It features some dynamic synths and pummeling, rhythmic drums.  As we’ve come to expect from a Camila Cabello track, and most pop tracks, the backdrop is certainly an asset, fueling the fire.  Shifting to the songwriting, the topic of choice should come as no surprise – love, romance, and of course, sex.  The best moment is undoubtedly the chorus, where Cabello delivers some of the most impressive falsetto of her career:

“Where did you come from baby?
And were you sent to save me?
Ooh, there’s a God in every move
Ooh, and you’re the living proof
The way you hands can’t shake me
Soft to the touch like, baby
Ooh, there’s God in every move
Ooh, and you’re the living proof.”

Camila Cabello excels at being sultry and sexy, and “Living Proof” is no different.  She also manages to throw in some blasphemy, which further accentuates the suggestive, sensual nature of this single.  On the first verse, she sings, “I wanna study every inch of you / ‘Til you trust me to make the angels come through.” Wow.  On the second verse, she’s a bit more devilish, as she sings, “Show your demons, and I might show you mine.” Of course, on the pre-chorus, sex and religion come together seamlessly: “Like a choir singing, ‘Hallelujah,’ / When my body’s crashin’ right into you.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Camila Cabello has given listeners a fairly sizable preview of what her sophomore album, Romance is going to sound like. Honestly, “Living Proof” ranks among my favorites released in advance of the project, if for no other reason than that falsetto.  The theme is nothing new but I certainly like the spiritual references and the chorus is epic.
