Sometimes, two is better than one! That is the case when it comes to Dazzling Duets! On Dazzling Duets, we highlight striking songs performed by two artists collaborating. These duets can be from any musical style, making Dazzling Duets a flexible, versatile column. In the 18th edition of Dazzling Duets (2026), Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes collaborate on “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life”. Let the dazzle begin!

“I’ve had the time of my life / No, I never felt this way before / Yes, I swear it’s the truth / And I owe it all to you.”
What happens when Bill Medley (b. 1940), a Righteous Brother, and Jennifer Warnes (b. 1947) collaborate?  Why, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life”, of course!  It should go without saying that this duet, the opening track from the Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), was huge.  The single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.  It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.  It won Medley his first Grammy, and Warnes her second Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards. Donald Markowitz, Franke Previte, and John DeNicola composed a sensational, unforgettable song that also won the Golden Globe Award and, more prestigiously, the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Michael Lloyd produced the timeless classic.  Of course, it was Medley and Warnes that brought this electrifying duet to life!

“Now I’ve had the time of my life

No, I never felt this way before

Yes, I swear it’s the truth

And I owe it all to you.”

Medley’s tone matches the warmth of the keyboards and synths.  Likewise, Jennifer Warnes follows, performing her shorter portion of the chorus warmly: “‘Cause I’ve had the time of my life / And I owe it all to you.” After setting the tone, a mighty groove settles. The beat is electric, while the bass line provides a firm foundation, and the guitars deliver some fabulous rhythmic riffs.  The first verse follows, with Bill singing two lines, followed by Jennifer.  They join forces on the final lines, harmonizing seamlessly: “Now with the passion in our eyes / There’s no way we could disguise it secretly…” Bill ushers in the pre-chorus, with Jennifer performing most it, before collaborating once again at the end (“This could be love / Because”).

Medley and Warnes are electrifying when performing in harmony on the second chorus. Notably, this chorus features the full-fledged, ornate production in all of its glory. Jennifer draws first blood on the second verse, performing the first two lines, before Bill takes the reins.  Jennifer closes out the verse with one significant lyric from Bill (“Stay with me”).  After another compelling pre-chorus, once more, the formidable duo is powerful during the chorus, accompanied by gorgeous keys, synths, programming, and all the things.  A delightful instrumental break follows the third chorus,  which includes a mean saxophone solo – so 1980s! Striking closing riffs from the instrumental section lead into the bridge, which is essentially a smoother version of the chorus. Bill performs most of the bridge, with a few contributions from Jennifer. They join forces on the ultra-powerful final chorus, backed by the ornate, rhythmic backdrop. Bill’s vocal ad-libs are gritty throughout this concluding section.  All told, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” is a big-time, ultra-successful pop duet.  It is one of the quintessential songs from the 1980s. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes DID THAT, PERIOD!
