Idid it once, back in 2018. Did what? Compiled a playlist based on the seven deadly sins: 21 Songs Associated with the Seven Deadly Sins. Now, more than seven (‼️) years later, in October 2025, I unveil the long-awaited sequel, 21 Songs Associated with the Seven Deadly Sins, Vol. 2. Pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth are soundtracked, with three sinful songs each. It is only fitting that this musical compendium arrives in a dark month – Halloween-type vibes 💀 👻 🎃!

Now, to plagiarize myself because I can, damn it (emphasis on the damn)! In the famous narrative poem The Divine Comedy, specifically Inferno, Italian poet Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) assigned sinners to one of the nine circles in Hell. Damn, as in damnation! According to him, these seven deadly sins are sinning! He also assigned sinners to the nine stages of Purgatory in Purgatorio. That’s not nearly as damning as hell, and all of that hellfire! 21 Songs Associated with the Seven Deadly Sins, Vol. 2 features songs by bbno$, Billie Eilish, cupcaKke, Hozier, Reneé Rapp, and Sublime. So, without further ado, let’s get utterly sinful with 21 Songs Associated with the Seven Deadly Sins, Vol. 2!

Pride

A proud Latino man with an arrogant expression, wearing a golden crown tilted slightly askew, conveying a sense of self-importance. [📷: AI via Canva]According to beloved actor Gene Wilder (1933 – 2016), “Pride is not the worst of sins. In fact, it’s one of the most interesting ones.” I’d advocate for lust 😈, but to each his own! Pride is the “excessive belief in one’s own abilities that interferes with the individual’s recognition of the Grace of God,” per Deadly Sins. Dante recognizes Pride in Purgatorio, specifically the third stage of PurgatoryPride concluded the seven deadly sins in 21 Songs Associated with the Seven Deadly Sins (2018). For volume two, we kick things off with three prideful joints courtesy of bbno$ (“Bitch, I’m him”), GloRilla (“Gave them hoes a head start this time, slow-ass bitches lost again”), and Ayham (“Hustling, I’m making these riches / I’m it, bitch.”).

1. bbno$, “it boy”

“it boy” » bbno$ » 2024

bbno$, it boy [📷: bbno$]

“bbno$, who the fuck do you think you are? / Bitch, I’m him (Him, him, him, him, him, him, him).”
You heard the man, and bbno$ is a character! That is an understatement.  The self-described “Gen-Z Eminem” brings ample confidence and rizz to his comedic, house-driven rap single, “it boy”.  Admittedly, the Canadian rapper has racked up some RIAA-certified singles. bbno$ penned “it boy” alongside producers Pink Slip (Kyle Buckley) and inverness (Rob Nelsen).

Following the bitchin’ introduction (excerpted above), bbno$ drops the infectious chorus, the centerpiece of “it boy.”

“I-T B-O-Y, B-B-N-O-dollar sign

That’s me, that’s right (That’s me, that’s right)

That’s me, that’s right (That’s me)

I-M H-I-M, the Gen-Z Eminem

That’s me, that’s right (That’s me, that’s right)

That’s me, that’s right (That’s me).”

Ooh-wee, bbno$! He doesn’t stop charming us in the chorus, backed by a sickening music backdrop.  The beat and those synths are a prime catalyst for dancing! bbno$ drops no shortage of potent rhymes, even if they are utterly ridiculous.  “Two hundred K got me jumpin’ on stage / All white Benz, see me whippin’ mayonnaise,” he raps in the first verse, continuing, “She lookin’ at me, she wanna ta-ta-taste / Shorty got a boyfriend, get out my face.” Woo! Of course, bbno$ makes it clear that he is well-endowed… you knew that was cumming… 🍆 💦 🤭 😈 Continuing with the silliness, bbno$ spits in the second verse, “Tiffany from Perth, she nice, she thunder-fuck me, AC/DC.” Let that sink in! Wrapping things up, bbno$ dropped an infectious, unforgettable banger with “it boy”. Indeed, “Bitch, he’s him!”

2. GloRilla, “LET HER COOK”

GLORIOUS » CMG / Interscope » 2024

GloRilla, Glorious [📷: CMG / Interscope]

“Never gave a damn, I ain’t never gave no fuck / Fell out with them hoes, we ain’t never makin’ up.”
Oh, snap, GloRilla (Gloria Hallelujah Woods)! The Grammy-nominated rapper continues spitting on “LET HER COOK”, “Back for everything I ever lost, I’m on a mission / We turned the whole house into a booth, we in the kitchen.” Instead of oh, snap, it’s more like, oh, shit! “LET HER COOK” is the 13th track from Woods’ 2024 debut album, GLORIOUS. London Jae, Pooh Beatz, Squat, and Coupe produced this kick-ass banger.

London Jae, Pooh Beatz, Squat, and Coupe give GloRilla a malicious musical backdrop. The instrumental features its fair share of looping but packs a mean punch. An Isaac Hayes sample (“Ike’s Mood I”) ups the ante.  Atop the production, GloRilla delivers tough, hard-nosed rhymes.  In the first verse, she brags, “Ass done got a lil’ fatter, now these hoes a lil’ madder (Okay) / Head done got a lil’ better, I don’t even think that matter.” Ooh-wee! At the end of the verse, she memorably spits, “My nigga ever cheat on me, I bet we break even, uh / Bitch, your nigga still my nigga, bet he can’t leave me, ho.” In the second verse, she doesn’t ease up on these bi-otches! “Gave you hoes the recipe (I did), can’t get this sauce again (Haha),” she bites, continuing, “Gave them hoes a head start this time, slow-ass bitches lost again (Ugh, on the gang, gang).” The cadence and flow are compelling as hell in this brief banger. The chorus, excerpted earlier, is only infectious as hell – it is infectious as fuck! GloRilla continues:

“Uh, let her cook (Woo)

Big Glo come through fryin’ shit (Hey), let her cook (Okay)

Too much cake, I’ll buy a bitch (On God), let her cook (Uh)

All this sauce, I’m tryin’ shit (Hoo), let me cook.”

It’s safe to say that Gloria Hallelujah Woods, aka GloRilla, cooks on the fierce “LET HER COOK”.

3. Ayham, “I AM A STAR, BITCH”

I AM A STAR, BITCH (EP) » Ayham » 2025

AYHAM, I AM A STAR, BITCH (EP) [📷: Ayham]Listen up, bitches! Ayham (Ayham Fayad) makes it clear, with ample repetition, “I’m a star, bitch, I’m a, I’m a star, bitch.” The hot 🥵, sassy 💅 German-based singer-songwriter asserts in a TikTok video, My name is Ayham, and I create music for the f*gs, dolls, and cvnts 🏳️‍🌈. “I AM A STAR, BITCH” fiercely and fittingly opens his 2025 EP, I AM A STAR, BITCH (EP).  Beyond the simple but unforgettable chorus, Ayham eats! He leaves no crumbs…bih! He co-produced it with Noah Grewing.

“I AM A STAR, BITCH” opens fiercely with dramatic strings.  After some intriguing classical music cues, the backdrop transforms into a mean-sounding, hip-hop cut.  Here, Ayham brings a shit-ton of attitude, confidence, and personality. He delivers a fast-paced, kick-ass cadence and flow. “When I pass by, you better make a wish, bitch / Bling-bling, diamonds on me, I’m so vicious,” he spits in the first verse, continuing, “Hustling, I’m making these riches / I’m it, bitch.” That’s only the beginning, though! After all, Ayham informs us, “These motherfuckers wanna copy my aesthetics / I lead, they follow, magnetic.” Ooh-wee! I ❤️ the clapping percussion that appears after his daring, fierce first verse. The second verse gives I’m the shit, energy.  Ayham characterizes himself as the shit:

“Heat coming out of the studio

Call the firefighters, call the radio

Making hits, flow’s a blitz, turning heads

Confess I’m the shit

By now, you should know

We got the power, we own the dancefloor

Beat so catchy, got me in a chokehold.”

The third verse keeps things interesting and unapologetic: “I give zero fucks, yeah I ain’t got time / Got bars for years, ain’t talking jail time.” Also, I cosign his bold assertion that “I wanna dance in my underwear 🩲 / I wanna make them stop and stare.” At the end of the cut, with striking instrumental contrast, Ayham confidently spits, “Fuck it up now / Now.” Ayham brings it on the fun “I AM A STAR, BITCH”.

Envy

A young woman with a wistful expression gazes longingly at a happy couple in the distance. The scene is bathed in soft, warm light, highlighting the contrast between her solitary mood and their shared joy.

“Our envy always lasts longer than the happiness of those we envy.”
That’s a mic-drop moment from Greek philosopher Heraclitus. Jealousy – what an awful thing!  Envy is described as “the desire for others’ traits, status, abilities, or situation,” per Deadly Sins. It could potentially land you in the treacherous ninth circle of hell.  After all, Cain was envious of Abel and killed him, right? He ended up in good ole number nine 😱. But, maybe if you’re not too envious, you’ll just end up in the fourth stage of Purgatory. That’s a substantial difference! Who are our envious musicians? Conan Gray is envious of Heather… kinda hates her, low key! Ariana Grande wants him for herself. Binoy wants to be H-I-M.  None seems envious enough to be damned to the ninth circle, thank goodness 😅 🙏!

4. Conan Gray, “Heather”

Kid Krow » Republic » 2020

Conan Gray, Kid Krow [📷: Republic]

“She’s got you mesmerized while I die.”
Oh, snap! “Heather” marks one of the best songs from Kid Krow, the platinum-certified debut album by Conan Gray. It is also the most successful song of Gray’s career, peaking at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite not reaching the top 40 on the pop charts, “Heather” still achieved multi-platinum status. Gray penned the envious single while Dan Nigro produced it. Gray is wrongfully mad at Heather. Why? The person he likes doesn’t like him, but likes Heather, so therefore, he dislikes/is envious of her. “But how could I hate her? She’s such an angel,” he sings, and continues, “But then again, kinda wish she were dead…” Gray is illogical, but very relatable.  The chorus is a prime example of just how relatable the song is:

“Why would you ever kiss me?

I’m not even half as pretty

You gave her your sweater, it’s just polyester

But you like her better

(I wish I were Heather).”

5. Ariana Grande, “Break Up with your Girlfriend, I’m bored”

“You got me some type of way / Ain’t used to feelin’ this way / I do not know what to say / But I know I shouldn’t think about it.”
Hmm, yield not to temptation! In the context of thank u, next“Break up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” marks a worthwhile moment from Grammy-winning pop superstar Ariana Grande.  Grande shines with stunning vocals – when doesn’t she, to be honest? Furthermore, “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” features slick production work, courtesy of Max Martin and ILYA. Also, the songwriting is entertaining and ultimately sounds good.  The theme of the record is pretty obvious, right? Right.  Ariana wants him to break up with her and be with her.  See Exhibit A: the chorus.

“Break up with your girlfriend

Yeah, yeah, ‘cause I’m bored

You could hit it in the mornin’

Yeah, yeah, like it’s yours

I know it ain’t right

But I don’t care

Break up with your girlfriend

Yeah, yeah, ‘cause I’m bored.”

6. Binoy, “Him”

The Great Alone (Deluxe) » Binoy Zachariah » 2025

Binoy, The Great Alone (Deluxe) [📷: Binoy Zachariah]

“I’m the prettiest peach 🍑 / On the tree / In a goddamn jungle / Nobody does it like me.”
The handsome and talented Binoy (Binoy Zachariah) makes sickening music. Kenya-bred and embracing his Indian roots, his brand of pop is adventurous. “Him” is another intriguing addition to his catalog, specifically, his album, The Great Alone. It was produced with Arthur Besna with colorful, highly successful results. Despite his confidence as a prized peach, it goes ‘unacknowledged.’ “I build towers / In his honor / With My bare hands,” he sings, adding, “On them he stands / At the center of the room / Right there next to you / I’ll never be him.” Ugh, that’s buzzkill, ego death, all of it!  On Instagram, he states:

I wrote this song about my struggles with envy and how lonely of a place it can make the world feel 🏜️ One of my favorites I’ve released so far, and I hope you love it as much as I do 🫶🏾

Binoy can’t win, even if he feels worthy of winning. He wants to be H-I-M. After all, “I’m the deepest green / You want a blue.” Two different colors. Unless he loses a yellow, he’ll never become blue. He talks about ego: “I’m made of gold / He’s coated in ivory / Why don’t you like me? / Why don’t they like me?” A debate can be made about the value of gold vs. ivory, however, the big takeaway is the loneliness that results from envy. He closes this captivating record with stellar lyrics.

“Jealousy still hits me

With a pang

In my chest

A canyon unfolds

The size of

The Great Alone.”

Binoy is Kenya’s best-kept secret! “Him” = BOP!

Gluttony

Lively Thanksgiving Feast Celebration [📷: Airam Dato-on from Pexels - https://www.pexels.com/photo/lively-thanksgiving-feast-celebration-30208570]According to American novelist and editor Peter De Vries (1910 – 1993), “Gluttony is an emotional escape, a sign something is eating us.” Fergie, known for her infamous, jazzy rendition of the National Anthem, describes gluttony differently:

I’m famous for splurging at fast-food places. I’m currently obsessed with Taco Bell’s bean and cheese burritos with extra green sauce and extra cheese. Gluttony!

Deadly Sins describes gluttony as “an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.” According to Dante, those guilty of gluttony will find themselves damned to the third circle of hell.  Additionally, in Purgatorio, gluttony is represented in the eighth stage of Purgatory. Our gluttonous musicians are Hozier (he skinny, tho), Billie Eilish (hungry for something tastier than lunch), and The Presidents of the United States of America (it’s giving millions of  🍑, and Chris Ballew is not sharing them!)

7. Hozier, “Eat Your Young”

Unreal Unearth Unending  » Columbia » 2023

Hozier, Unreal Unearth: Unending [📷: Columbia]

I’m starvin’, darlin’ / Let me put my lips to something / Let me wrap my teeth around the world.”
Ooh-la-la – so this is what we’re doing Hozier?  Well, damn! Later, the Grammy-nominated Irish singer/songwriter asserts in the second verse of “Eat Your Young” (Unreal Unearth), “I can’t buy this fineness / Let me see the heat get to you / Let me watch the dressing start to peel.” Woo! While there is a sexual vibe going down, Hozier goes deeper, exploring the notion of eating the young – exploiting them for gain.  The chorus says it best, particularly the end: “Come and get some / Skinnin’ the children for a war drum / Puttin’ food on the table sellin’ bombs and guns / It’s quicker and easier to eat your young.” “Eat Your Young” goes beyond its clever songwriting.  Hozier sings expressively throughout, showing off a cool, sexy, and sophisticated tone, showing a ripe falsetto during the chorus.  Furthermore, the production is gorgeous, led by the lush, picturesque strings (well arranged). The melodies are tuneful, namely the pre-chorus and chorus. In addition to the strings, the rhythm section makes “Eat Your Young” a success too (punchy drums, keys, guitars, robust bass line).

8. Billie Eilish, “Lunch”

HIT ME HARD AND SOFT » Darkroom / Interscope » 2024

Billie Eilish, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT [📷: Darkroom / Interscope]

“I could eat that girl for lunch / Yeah, she dances on my tongue / Taste like she might be the one.”
Academy and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Billie Eilish is honest regarding attraction and sexuality in her song, “LUNCH”. “I’m interested in more than just bein’ your friend,” she adds in the bridge. “LUNCH” is the second track from her critically acclaimed, third studio album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.  An authentic, honest, and personal track, Eilish embraces her queerness. In 2023, she came out unintentionally, stating she didn’t know people were unaware of her attraction to women. Early on “LUNCH,” Eilish is transparent about having a relationship with a woman. She adds in the centerpiece, the chorus, “It’s a craving, not a crush.” The lyric legitimizes her desire – it’s no fluke.

In the verses, Eilish ‘opens up’ about her feelings about this girl. All the while, she maintains the lunch metaphor.  “Baby, I think you were made for me / Somebody write down the recipe,” she sings in the first verse, adding, “Been tryin’ hard not to overeat / You’re just so sweet.” Things progress, with Eilish offering to help this girl ‘take off her clothes,’ desiring to “get her off.” In the second verse, she’s impressed with her beautiful looks, complimenting her skin.  She cleverly concludes the verse by singing, “She’s the headlights, I’m the deer.” What makes “LUNCH” impressive is how vulnerable Eilish allows herself to be. Navigating sexuality is difficult.  That is an understatement!  Here, with her amazing, distinct voice and the stellar production of her right-hand man, FINNEAS, Eilish conveys her truth, masking nothing. This “LUNCH” is delicious and makes us beam ear to ear with Pride 🏳️‍🌈.

9. The Presidents of the United States of America, “Peaches”

The Presidents of the United States of America » PUSA Music » 1995

The Presidents of the United States of America [📷: PUSA Music]

“Movin’ to the country / I’m gonna eat a lot of peaches.”
Well, maybe The Presidents of the United States of America, maybe. Regardless, the alternative rock band’s hit single, “Peaches” references the fruit numerous times. Take one listen, and you’ll be addicted, even 25 years after the song first arrived.  It certainly shouldn’t surprise you that the record was nominated for a Grammy.

The lyrics are definitely entertaining to the nth degree.  We’re informed that “Peaches come from a can / They were put there by a man / In a factory downtown.” True.  Of course, if we honestly believe the band was being innocent, we’d be lying to ourselves. Front man Chris Ballew has stated the song was written about a crush.  Where the peaches come in, supposedly, is that he wrote the song after sitting under a peach tree in her yard. “I took a little nap where the roots all twist / Squished a rotten peach in my fist,” he sings on the second verse, continuing, “And dreamed about you woman / I poked my finger down inside / Make a little room for an ant to hide / Nature’s candy in my hand or can or a pie.” Woo! Of course, the best part of the song beyond the ‘fingering’ is the outro:

“Millions of peaches, peaches for me

Millions of peaches, peaches for free.”

Oh, the gluttony of it all!

Lust

A couple lying on bed [📷: cottonbro studio from Pexels - https://www.pexels.com/photo/a-couple-lying-on-bed-5928582]

“Cum in my mind, it’s like a wet dream / Heaven inside, you gotta slip it right in me.”
Excuse me, Gregory Dillon? Even wet dreams are sinful! Utterly lustful! It’s giving damnation to the second circle of hell per my boy, Dante! In Purgatorio, lust, “an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body” (Deadly Sins), is represented in the ninth stage of Purgatory. So, the next time you cum in your mind… or beyond… just remember there’s a special place in hell, or minimally, purgatory, for you! Our lustful musicians are Mad Tsai, who lusts after Stacy’s smoking hot brother 🌈 😍, cupcaKke, who focuses on her private parts and her backdoor 🍑, and Ying Yang Twins, who drop some of the filthiest fucking bars you’ll ever hear. You might be damned just listening to “Pull My Hair” 😳.

10. Mad Tsai, “Stacy’s Brother”

“Stacy’s Brother” » Mad Tsai » 2022

Mad Tsai, Stacy's Brother [📷: Mad Tsai]

“I’ve been hanging out with Stacy / Everybody thinks we’re dating?”
Oh, really? Hmm 🤔. You are truly mad if you have not embraced the gift that is Mad Tsai.  The young, bisexual pop artist knows how to make a bop – NO CAP.  Furthermore, he’s pretty easy on the eyes 😍 – just an observation! Honestly, can you feel guilty complimenting his looks after seeing the hot 🥵 music video for “Stacy’s Brother”? Not only do we see shirtless Mad Tsai but there are also other shirtless boys in the mix. That said, while the sexy, objectification piece is in play on this LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈 bop, it’s the song’s drama and narrative that truly seal the deal.

So, the deal is, the rumors are that Mad Tsai is dating Stacy, who is incredibly beautiful and the popular girl. It makes sense in a straight world, right? Hot guy (Mad Tsai) scores hot girl (Stacy), etc.  But, ultimately, Tsai is attracted to Stacy’s brother! “I lose my cool when he’s around / And I don’t know if this is just a crush / How do I find the words to tell her? / I’m in love with Stacy’s brother.” Oh, the scandal!  Eventually, he’s not just in love with Stacy’s brother, he admits, “I hooked up with Stacy’s brother,” and at the end, admits, “The way I’ve behaved is a crime / Oh, Stacy, I got to tell ya / I’m in love with your big brother.” Woo! Oh, and for what it’s worth, in the music video, Stacy’s brother is pretty hot, so can you blame Mad Tsai? Absolutely not 😂!

11. cupcaKke, “One of My Bedbugs Ate My Pussy”

“One of My Bedbugs Ate My Pussy” » cupcakKe » 2025

cupcakKe, One of My Bedbugs Ate My Pussy [📷: cupcakKe]

“One of my bedbugs ate my pussy / And he left bed crumbs, your nigga in my bed buggin’ me for the gushy.”
Only cupcakKe, among the most unapologetic rappers of them all, could come up with the likes of “One of My Bedbugs Ate My Pussy”. It is a song title that NO ONE is sure to forget.  She continues rapping in the intro of this filthy, sexed-up, raunch-fest, “Riddles, ain’t that fun but I got a riddle, how my twat really looks tea (Yeah) / What’s sweet, pretty warm, needs water to form and stays with a bag? My pussy (Mwah).” Holy fucking moly! CupcakKe wrote “Bedbugs” while Level On the Beat produced it. It features an aggressive, danceable backdrop set in a minor key.  The beat goes hard, groovy to the nth degree. CupcakKe matches the accompaniment with fierce, hard-nosed, and unapologetic rhymes.

CupcakKe’s one-liners are insane and often X-rated. In the first verse, she spits, “Anal, start pokin’, back throwin’, croc shoes, gotta knock my holes in / Pussy turn poet, start speakin’ when smokin’.” She, indeed, references anal sex, and it’s not the only time 😳. Another memorable moment is comparing a missed facial to a misfired bullet: “Wanna bust on my face, I’ma dodge that cock / He gonna miss this face like when Trump got shot.” In the second verse, she memorably concludes, “Yeah, the pussy got his babies, but the mouth gon’ adopt it.” Holy shit, I’m running out of profanity-laden phrases to describe this profanity-laden, X-rated song 😬. More of the same in the third: “He came in dapper just to eat the butt / The pussy O-P, yo, come pee in the cup.” CupcakKe is filthy, but the cadence and flow are popping! Potent. Beyond the verses, cupcakKe never fails to surprise in other sections.  The chorus is infectious but naughty, referencing Lady Gaga’s shoes, ten-inch dicks, and those bugs, again. In the post-chorus, we get the honor of hearing “Hawk tuah.” In the bridge, she corrupts a child’s nursery rhyme: “The itsy-bitsy spider crawled in my booty crack /… Down came the rain when I threw this coochie back.” One this is for sure, “One of My Bedbugs Ate My Pussy” successfully promotes butt play…

Ying Yang Twins » U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta) » The Orchard » 2005

“Fucking like dogs / Me and Shorty off of the walls / And I like it when she play with the balls.”
👀 What more is there to say but, woof, woof 🐶! The Ying Yang Twins aren’t family-friendly, that’s for sure! The Atlanta rap duo gets N-A-S-T-Y on the freaky banger, “Pull My Hair”. “Pull My Hair” appears on their platinum-certified, 2005 album, U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta). Produced by Mr. Collipark, D-Roc and Kane get busy (aka doing it, aka getting down and dirty).  The booty is not safe in their hands!

The intro, performed by the girl, sets the tone of “Pull My Hair.” Bluntly, she’s on some sexy shit, alluding to “Wait (The Whisper Song)” and setting up the, dare I say, fuckery. D-Roc takes it and runs with it in the first verse, calling her on talking “a whole lot of shit.” Mentioning his ding-a-ling, he expresses how it’s going down: “First off with brain and I’m a beat the pussy / Hit it from the back and beat the pussy up.” He doesn’t stop there, of course.  Touting his length, he adds, “Now ride on the dick like you were dancing in the club,” and, “Now turn your ass around and let me hit it from behind ya / Put a big dick inside ya / I’m a hit it from the back while I’m pulling your hair.” Kane isn’t left out of the filthiness in the second verse. Arguably, he’s even hornier! “That pussy from the back, I’m a get it,” he spits, and continues, “I’m walking over to ya with the rubber (oooh) / Your ass in trouble (Is it up high enough?).” 😳 He concludes: “I got a ten-foot pole / That’ll go in your hole / Take yo soul / Make nut come out yo nose / Fall all on yo clothes.” Gah-day-um! The centerpiece of this carnal filth is the chorus:

“Now that I got you in the bed, I’m gonna pull yo hair

… Pull my hair…

Fuck me, daddy, spank me, daddy

Fuck me, shit!”

And on that nut, I mean note, I’ma leave it there! “Pull My Hair” is… something else!

Anger

“Well fuck you-ooh! / And fuck you! / And fuck you, pretty boy! / And fuck you all very much!”
Oh, the anger that badass Richard (portrayed by Russell Sams) exhibits in the unforgettable restaurant scene from The Rules of Attraction. Anger is “manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury,” per Deadly Sins.  Sometimes, anger is referred to as wrath. According to Dante, those who are angry will find themselves damned to the fifth circle of hell. Also, anger appears in Purgatorio as wrath, the fifth stage of Purgatory. So, who’s angry? Reneé Rapp is mad! SZA “might kill [her] ex… not the best idea.” And, to cap off the anger, how about Rage Against The Machine, specifically Zack de la Rocha, who asserts, “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!” Oh, snap 🫰!

13. Reneé Rapp, “Mad”

BITE ME » Interscope » 2025

Reneé Rapp, BITE ME [📷: Interscope]

“I wish I could take that pretty little face / And shake some sense into you (Like).”
Pop singer-songwriter Reneé Rapp is “Mad” about her love interest being mad instead of embracing love and intimacy, hence why she sings the excerpted lines from the song’s pre-chorus. “Mad” is the second single from her sophomore album, BITE ME. Omer Fedi, Carter Lang, Solomonphonic, and Alexander 23 produced this mad gem, which thrives on guitars and alternative and rock/pop cues.

Reneé Rapp sings well from the get-go. She brings energy, accurate pitch, and sings sincerely.  In the first verse, the discord is perceptible. “Not a single little curl that’s on your head don’t want me dead,” she sings, continuing, “Okay, I get it, you wanna be mad.” In the second verse, we get a unique lyric where Rapp wishes to replace her Marlboro with her finger: “Slow down, put my finger in your mouth / Pull the bitter taste out, baby, you can have me instead.” Still, Rapp’s girlfriend, if she’s even that, seems utterly displeased.  Instead of the anger, in the tuneful, unforgettable chorus, Reneé encourages love, romance, and sex:

“All of the time, you wasted in your head

We could’ve been having sex

You could’ve been getting all of my time

But you were being mad.”

In the final chorus, Rapp gets even madder: “All of the time you were fucking with my head / We could’ve been having sex.” Quality singing, songwriting, and production all make “Mad” a bop.

14. SZA, “Kill Bill”

SOS / “Kill Bill (Remix)” » Top Dawg Entertainment / RCA » 2023

SZA, SOS Deluxe: LANA [📷: Top Dawg Entertainment / RCA]

“I might kill my ex, not the best idea,”
Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter SZA (Solana Rowe) asserts on “Kill Bill”, one of the best songs from her critically acclaimed sophomore LP, SOS.  In the record, she sings gorgeously despite being pissed off.  In the first verse of the original, she asserts, “I’m still a fan even though I was salty / Hate to see you with some other broad, know you happy / Hate to see you happy if I’m not the one drivin’.” Like the Quentin Tarantino films she references, she’s angry at her ex, eventually confirming she kills him and his new girlfriend.

SZA, “Kill Bill (Remix)” [📷: Top Dawg Entertainment / RCA]Ultimately, her love pain, and violence, is our listening pleasure, accentuated even more on “Kill Bill (Remix)” featuring fellow Grammy winner, Doja Cat.  Doja appears at the beginning of the remix, replacing the original verse by SZA.  It is colorful, painting a violent picture, because of her ex-boyfriend being a dick.  Doja ends up going to his new house, the new girlfriend is angry, and ultimately, after the new girlfriend charges at Doja, she shoots her.  Memorably, she closes the verse with a bang: “Y’all crisscrossed, saw her fall to the floor / Then you paused there in horror, that shot wasn’t for her.”  From there, we get the rest of the original “Kill Bill,” beginning with the unforgettable, ex-killing chorus, and second verse by SZA (“I try to ration with you, no murders, no crime of passion / But, damn, you was out of reach”). “Kill Bill” is a stellar track.

15. Rage Against the Machine, “Killing in the Name”

Rage Against the Machine » Sony Music Entertainment » 1992

Rage Against the Machine, Rage Against the Machine [📷: Sony Music Entertainment]

“Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!”
Woo – that’s a bold statement Zack de la Rocha! Honestly, the entirety of “Killing in the Name”  is bold by Rage Against the Machine.  This angry, high-energy rap-rock record protests police brutality.  The most famous song of their career arrived in 1992 on their self-titled album, following the infamous Rodney King incident.  Prior to the scathing “fuck you,” de la Rocha asserts on the chorus, “Those who died are justified / For wearing the badge, they’re chosen white.” Wow – potent and sadly, relevant 30 years after the arrival of the record.

Zack de la Rocha is the star, painting a damning picture of racists and in this case, the police: “Some of those that work forces / are the same that burn crosses.” Besides a dynamic, turned-up performance by de la Rocha, guitar god Tom Morello shines, delivering kick-ass jagged riffs and a stellar guitar solo.  Before de la Rocha even performs a note, Morello helps establish the ferocious tone of this 90s classic. Expectedly, a profane rock record protesting police brutality is going to earn a controversial badge and be censored.  Regardless, “Killing in the Name” marks one of the greatest songs of the 90s 🤘.

Greed

Man in a Crown Holding Banknotes [📷: Photo by ABNER LOBO: https://www.pexels.com/photo/man-in-a-crown-holding-banknotes-15128176/]Of greed, Julian Casablancas asserts it “is the inventor of injustice as well as the current enforcer.” Eartha Kitt also had something to say about the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual: “Greed is so destructive. It destroys everything.”  Sometimes, greed is referred to as avarice. According to Dante, those who are greedy will find themselves damned to the fourth circle of hell.  Greed also has a place in Purgatorio as avarice, the seventh stage of Purgatory. Our greedy musicians are Rick Ross, collaborating with Pharrell Williams (“A nigga came for the money”), Tate McRae (“Baby, don’t get greedy”), and the late Barrett Strong (“I need money (That’s what I want)”).

16. Rick Ross & Pharrell Williams, “For The Money”

“Everybody want beef, niggas want smoke / Hoes gettin’ high, niggas on dope / Everybody got rich, then they went broke / Hoes wanna shop, then they wanna post.”
Woo! Rick Ross and Pharrell Williams join forces on “For The Money”, produced by Williams. The backdrop and beat are Pharrell-ian yet contrast with some of his past productions with a dash of Latin flair fused with rap stylings. For Rick Ross, the backdrop also felt like a departure of sorts, albeit still expensive and luxurious sounding. Regardless, Ross’s cadence and flow are strong as he raps about his favorite thing: money.  He says nothing substantial. Unsurprisingly, he also raps about drip and his bitches: “Champagne toast, Belaire buckets / A bad lil’ bitch, bend it over, bust it / I got another bitch, she a thick Russian / Ready for the dick, always rushin’.” In the second verse, we get more of the same with drip (“Everybody want beef, I just want a boat,” and “Got a whole safe full of Rolex watches / Don’t even rock ‘em, Cartier watchin’”) and, again, bitches (“Got the whole club full of bad bitch options”). The chorus is lengthy, but, like the song itself, grows on you.

“But I came for the money (But I came for the money)

Only came for the money (Only came for the money)

A nigga came for the money (A nigga came for the money)

Big boss want money (Big boss want money)…”

“For The Money” is enjoyable and respectable without moving the needle for Rick Ross or Pharrell.

17. Tate McRae, “greedy”

THINK LATER » RCA » 2023

Tate McRae, THINK LATER [📷: RCA]

“I’ve been next to you all night and still don’t know what you’re about.”
Ooh-wee! Tate McRae is not saying too much, but the guy pursuing her is. He seems to be doing far too much, or so our pop star describes on “greedy”.  “Greedy” is the second track from her breakout, 2023 sophomore album, THINK LATER.  In the second verse, she asserts, “I see you eyein’ me down, but you’ll never know much past my name / Or how I’m runnin’ this room around and that I’m half your age.” Oh, damn!

McRae penned “greedy” with Amy Allen, Ryan Tedder, Jasper Harris, and Grant. Tedder, Harris, and Grant produced it. Although brief with a runtime just over two minutes, Tate puts her foot into it with a playful vocal performance, bringing the rhythmic, tuneful melodies to life. Anchored by a percussive groove, “Greedy” is an infectious, irresistible bop.  The crème de la crème is the greedy chorus:

“I would want myself

Baby, please believe me

I’ll put your through hell

Just to know me, yeah, yeah

So sure of yourself

Baby, don’t get greedy

That shit won’t end well

(No, it won’t) End well.”

Is it any surprise that “greedy” reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America? Nope. Gen-Z pop banger!

The Collection » Spectrum Music » 2004

Barrett Strong, The Collection [📷: Spectrum Music]

“The best things in life are free / But you can give them to the birds, and bees / I need money.”
Woo! What a memorable line from the Barrett Strong (1941 – 2023) classic, “Money (That’s What I Want)”. While the Motown legend is most renowned for his pen, he scored a hit on the pop charts with “Money,” which peaked at no. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 1960. The chorus is the most famous part of this early soul classic, with Strong singing lead supported by marvelous background vocals: “I need money (That’s what I want) / That’s what I want (That’s what I want).” Still, the verses are infectious, including the second where Strong, showing ample personality, asserts, “Your love gave me such a thrill / But your love don’t pay my bills.” Hence, that’s why Strong needs M-O-N-E-Y! “Money” was penned by another icon, Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford.  Gordy also produced this super catchy joint.  A record that is well into its 60s, “Money (That’s What I Want)” never grows old or sounds the least bit anachronistic.

Sloth

Woman in Blue Denim Lying on Bed [📷: Chase Yi from Unsplash - https://unsplash.com/photos/woman-in-blue-denim-shorts-lying-on-bed-AcJ95ABM3NU]

“I can’t relate to lazy people. We don’t speak the same language,”
the late, great Kobe Bryant 🏀 once said, adding, “I don’t understand you. I don’t want to understand you.” Also speaking to laziness, there is a thought-provoking Lithuanian proverb: “Offer the lazy an egg, and they’ll want you to peel it for them.” Amen 🙏! Sloth is described as “the avoidance of physical or spiritual work,” per Deadly Sins.  If you read into sloth as “the avoidance of spiritual work,” it seems it could potentially land you further down the depths of the fiery pit.  For example, the sixth circle of hell deals with heresy, while the worst circle of all, circle nine, features spiritually slothful, treacherous individuals, including Cain and Judas Iscariot.  That’s some damning stuff right there. Sloth has a specific place in Purgatorio, as the sixth stage of Purgatory. In terms of 21 Songs Associated with the Seven Deadly Sins, Vol. 2, we keep the slothfulness more lighthearted, via bops from Sublime (“I don’t wanna eat burritos”), Afroman (“I was gonna clean my room until I got high”), and the late, great Jimmy Buffett (“Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville”).

19. Sublime, “Burritos”

Sublime » Gasoline Alley, J.V. » 1996

“I ain’t gettin’, I ain’t gettin’ out of bed today.”
Huh, it’s giving sloth, Sublime. Specifically, Bradley Nowell asserts, “I don’t wanna eat burritos.” Damn, he is feeling some way! Those are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to “Burritos”. “Burritos” is the 12th track from the alternative rock/ska band’s multiplatinum, self-titled album, released in 1996. Interestingly, it is a remake of an early Sublime song, “Fighting Badly.” Nowell (vocals and guitar), Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums) penned this lazy joint. Paul Leary produced it.

“Burritos” is a quick-paced, energetic alternative rock record. Sure, Bradley Nowell doesn’t “want to do a goddamn thing,” but he and the band bring it, nonetheless.  Before he sings one note or utters one slothful lyric, the intro lasts north of 30 seconds.  During the intro, the music is striking, gassing up Newell’s laziness.  Some of the things that he has no interest in are surprising. “I don’t want to look at naked chicks and drink beer,” he sings in the first verse. WTF?! Similarly, in the second verse, he informs us, “I don’t want to watch no porno / And I don’t want to play guitar / I don’t want to spank the monkey / I don’t want to go down to the corner bar.” No jerking off? Wow! Nowell’s lack of engagement in anything, including pleasurable activities such as solo time and eating burritos, suggests depression. If you are experiencing substantial depression and mental health issues, not leaving the bed all day wouldn’t be far-fetched.  Depression is not fun but this song about where Nowell doesn’t wanna do shit, and asserts, “Keep on skankin’, Ronnie” is a blast.  “Burritos” in the hands of Sublime never tasted so delish!

20. Afroman, “Because I Got High”

The Good Times » Republic » 2001

Afroman, The Good Times [📷: Republic]

“‘Cause I got high / Because I got high / Because I got high / (La-da-da da da da-da-da-da)”
Afroman (Joseph Foreman) earned brief success. His main claim to fame was his song, “Because I Got High”, which appeared on his 2001 gold-certified album, The Good Times. “Because I Got High” cemented its place in 2000s hip-hop/rap history.  It peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, was certified platinum, and earned a Grammy nomination (Best Rap Solo Performance).

“Because I Got High” is self-explanatory – no deep analysis is necessary.  Because Afroman spends far too much time getting high (on weed), frankly, he does lots of dumb shit. It’s not so bad early on though: “I was gonna clean my room until I got high /… I was gonna get up and find the broom, but then I got high.” Not cleaning a room? Forgivable.  His academics are affected by his weed intake, which is less than stellar, hence why he’s “Taking it [the class] next semester” because he flunked.  Where things get hairier on this infectious, melodic rap cut is Afroman shirking bigger responsibilities.  Not going to court and paying his child support – DEAD BEAT DAD! Running from the cops instead of pulling over like he should, and because he was high, he ends up paraplegic… Process that one.  Among the funniest and lewdest happenings in “Because I Got High” occur in the seventh verse:

“I was gonna make love to you (Oh!) but then I got high

… I was gonna eat yo pussy too, but then I got high

Now I’m jacking off and I know why

‘Cause I got high

Because I got high

Because I got high.”

Damn, Afroman! At least he’s transparent when he asserts, “I messed up my entire life because I got high.” His mistakes are troubling but sweet music to our ears on the unforgettable “Because I Got High”, a stoner anthem for the ages!

21. Jimmy Buffett, “Margaritaville”

Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes » MCA » 1977

“Nibblin’ on sponge cake, watchin’ the sun bake / All of those tourists covered with oil…”
Sadly in 2023, the great Jimmy Buffett passed away at the age of 76 from a rare form of skin cancer.  Best known for his music, Buffett was also an author and businessman. Still, the best way to memorialize the legendary tropical-infused, country + soft rock singer/songwriter is to highlight his best-known hit, “Margaritaville”. “Margaritaville” marked his sole top-10 pop hit, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977. It appeared as the sixth track off his platinum-certified album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes (1977).

“Strummin’ my six-string on my front porch swing / Smell those shrimp, they’re beginning to boil.” Buffett painted quite the aesthetic and vibe with his lyrics on “Margaritaville.”  The first voice sets the tone of an idyllic place – a Xanadu if you will. Well, sort of… The lyrics are carefree and playful throughout, such as in the second verse where he sings, “But it’s a real beauty, a Mexican cutie / How it got here I haven’t got a clue.” He’s referencing his tattoo from his extended stay in… Margaritaville, of course! Fittingly, despite his misfortune cutting his heel in the third verse, it can be atoned for by “Booze in the blender and soon it will render / That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.” Woo! Of course, the centerpiece is the chorus, which is slightly altered following each verse.  Perhaps the best is where his lost shaker of salt makes him a bit salty 😜!

“Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville

Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt

Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame

But I know it’s my own damn fault.”

All told, “Margaritaville” is such an incredibly fun, timeless song.  Buffett sings incredibly well and will always be remembered for this 1970s gem.  Gotta love the blend of country, soft rock, and tropical music – it’s a vibe!
