1. Ryan Beatty, “Powerslide”

Boy in Jeans • Boy in Jeans • 2018

Ryan Beatty, Boy in Jeans [Photo Credit: Boy in Jeans]Ryan Beatty, an openly gay, former teen-pop artist, is honest about love and sex throughout the course of his stellar debut album, Boy in Jeans.  Boy in Jeans is an eclectic album, encompassing pop, R&B, and a dash of alternative. Standout “Powerslide” plays up the soulful summer, West Coast vibes (Beatty is from Cali BTW). The record screams infatuation and sex, making a couple of references to pleasure, including a ‘pool job.’ No Beatty doesn’t get specific but, we can assume what occurs by examining the lyrics.

“He gave me pleasure underneath the water / And it felt so good / Now we’re power sliding till the flood spurts stop us…”

On the second, he’s playful with words, while being explicit at the same time: “Now we share a couple of cigarettes before we go to bed and you / Got the plastic / That’s f**king fantastic.” The relationship between Beatty and his boyfriend is LIT.  No steamy accompanying music video though… #Summer Bummer.

2. Christina Aguilera, “Pipe”

Ft. XNDA

Liberation • RCA • 2018

Christina Aguilera, Liberation [PHOTO CREDIT: RCA]“Bet I’ll make you splash like Geronimo / If you don’t like it fast, I could take it slow.”  Yes, she’s totally saying what you think she’s saying… It’s truly a shame that Christina Aguilera had a tepid run with her comeback album, Liberation.  Overall, it’s an enjoyable, well-rounded pop album that dips into R&B and hip-hop.  One of its most ‘excited’ moments is “Pipe,” featuring XNDA. The aforementioned lyrical excerpt definitely refers to ‘pipe’ (catch my drift yet?).

In case you haven’t been awakened by the slang, “Pipe” isn’t about weed, at least in this context. No, pipe is slang for sex. The innuendo is ripe (and goes hard): “I get loud when you put that pipe down, pipe down, pipe down.” While the song thrives on sex and lacks substance beyond the “splash” Aguilera mentioned earlier, the production is great, particularly the electric piano and drum programming.

3. Nicki Minaj, “Rich Sex”

Ft. Lil Wayne

Queen • Cash Money • 2018

Nicki Minaj, Queen [Photo Credit: Cash Money]“If you know your pu**y worth a Benz truck / Don’t let homie f**k unless his bands up.”  If you gathered that “Rich Sex” isn’t a ‘family-friendly single’ from Nicki Minaj, you’d be totally correct.  Looking ‘deeper’ into the content, clearly, depth is not the modus operandi.  Nicki Minaj not only thinks a lot of herself (“I ain’t stupid, this $250 on my arm”), but so do these men.  Even so, early into her verse, she makes it clear, “I like money more than dick, n*gga, that’s a fact.” Following her chorus (excerpted at the beginning of the review), she drops a repetitive hook: “If you let that broke n*gga f**k, we tellin’.”

Lil Wayne gets into the act on the second verse, as sexed-up as ever.  He kicks the verse off chocked-full of class:

“Lil mama said she only f**kin’ on a rich dick / I c*m in her face and tell her, ‘Now you lookin’ rich, b*tch.”

That’s absolutely disgusting. Beyond opening with a ‘bang,’ he continues in similar, sexed-up fashion.  Give him credit for staying true to self. Beyond the unapologetic lyrics and themes, the production bangs with a trap beat and a minimal piano loop.

4. 88rising, Joji & BlocBoy JB, “Peach Jam”

Head in the Clouds • 88rising • 2018

88rising, Head in the Clouds [Photo Credits: 88rising / 12Tone Music]“Take you on a picnic then for a ride / Ride it all, ride it alright / Hold the door open, baby, let me come inside / Spoon full of love in your peach jam.” One of the best songs from the 88rising compilation, Heads in the Clouds, arrives with the infectious, sunny-sounding “Peach Jam.” “Peach Jam” is performed by alternative R&B singer Joji (formerly YouTube personality Pink Guy/Dirty Frank) and rapper BlocBoy JB.  This is the perfect summer song, thriving off its chill, sexy, and soulful vibes.  This short little gem ‘gets down to business,’ if you catchy my drift.  Yeah, it seems innocent enough, but when’s the last time pop has lacked any sexual innuendo?

5. Trey Songz, “Playboy”

Tremaine the Album • Atlantic • 2017

Trey Songz, Tremaine the Album © Atlantic“Still running ‘round tryin’ to lay up / Still f**king but I wanna make love, I really want to / Don’t know why I’m still a playboy.” On “Playboy”, Trey Songz can’t get past his playboy status.  From the jump, he shares his shortcomings.  On the verses, he provides details for his playboy problem.  He’s quick to cite his conquests, remains guilty of those conquests, yet, he genuinely wants to better himself… supposedly. Though “Playboy” lacks transcendence, vocally, Songz remains in his artistic lane, not to mention steamy.  Like really steamy.

6. Fergie, “M.I.L.F. $”

Double Dutchess • BMG Rights Management • 2017

Fergie, Double Dutchess © BMG Rights Management“Heard you in the mood for a little MILF-shake / Welcome to the Dairy Dutchess Love Factory / I could whip it up, fix you up straight away.” Oh brother! “M.I.L.F. $” marked a risqué, unapologetic return for Fergie back in 2016, long before the release of Double Dutchess. She knew exactly what she was doing with “M.I.L.F. $,” delivering a record that thrives off of sex. If you’re naïve of the slang Fergie embraces, M.I.L.F. is an acronym for mom I’d like to f**k.  Making this even ‘steamier’ or just outright dirty is this term is often associated with a particular genre of adult entertainment

Focusing on “M.I.L.F. $” itself, it’s a quirky joint that’s gimmicky to the nth degree. To an extent, there’s a sense of desperation from Fergie – ‘overexertion’ if you will. Nonetheless, it’s in line with the type of artist she’s been consistently throughout her career.  Take it with a grain of salt.

“You got that, you got that, you got that milk money / I got that, I got that, I got that MILF money.”

7. Ro James, “Burn Slow”

ELDORADO • ByStorm Entertainment / RCA • 2017

Ro James, Eldorado [Photo Credit: RCA]“Oh…shit / Girl, that Honey Jack put us on our back / When we on our back we get to that action / Pour up, pour up.”  Grammy-nominated R&B singer Ro James has a fun, sexy, and substance-filled night (and morning) with his girl on “Burn Slow.” Basically, they’ve been drinking, smoking, and of course, having sex.  On the falsetto-filled chorus of this slow, grinding ballad, James sings about how awesome the experience is.

“Waking up to you in the morning / It’s better than sunrise / So we can keep the curtains closed / Just light a few more candles and burn ‘em slow / Baking up with you in the morning / Trying to get a little rewind / ‘Cause I ain’t really ready to let you go… / Just light a few more candles and burn ‘em slow.”

Does this particular song sound familiar? Maybe you first encountered it on Experience the ‘Burn’ of These 11 Songs. Hey, that filthy falsetto and those candles are enough to earn this one a spot on this list.

8. Rihanna, “Work”

Ft. Drake

Anti • Roc Nation • 2016

Rihanna, Anti © Roc Nation“Work” may not be Rihanna’s go-to unapologetic song, but it’s definitely “not that innocent.” First, it is worth praising SOME of the lyrics – “Work” has elements of a relationship transcendent of the physical components.  But “Work” would be boring if an emotional connection were solely the M.O., right? Damn right! Lyrically, deciphering much of “Work” is difficult, considering that Rihanna sings in a tropical dialect (her words purposely slurred as well).  Regardless, it doesn’t matter – it’s clear that the “work” is sexual.  The chorus alone establishes that point, while the accompanying video with Drake confirms it.  This is a song where the sound itself amplifies its steamy, unapologetic nature.

9. Miguel, “Coffee”

Wildheart • RCA • 2015

Miguel, Wildheart © RCAOn his third album Wildheart, Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Miguel amplified sex to new heights.  His sexiest moment, “Coffee”, has little to do with a Starbucks Blonde Americano, or a good old-fashioned cup of Folgers (Classic Roast is my go to). Throughout “Coffee,” Miguel progresses the narrative of both the emotional and physical relationship.  While he doesn’t make “Coffee” merely carnal, it ends up there. The innuendo is poetic: “Wordplay, turns into gunplay / and gunplay turns into pillow talk / and pillow talk turns into sweet dreams / sweet dreams turns into coffee in the morning.”  We all know about that “Pillowtalk” from ZAYN, and pretty sure that the “gunplay” has nothing to do with Draco.  Continuing.

The reference to “coffee in the morning” suggests a night of play and perhaps even an early morning session.  Hey, some folks enjoy it early!  The best line comes care of the blasphemous “Old souls we found a new religion / Now I’m swimming in that sin, that’s baptism…” Not exactly what I was taught as a youngster from my pastor… Doesn’t seem to mesh with “Train up a child in the way he should go…”. That, of course, is a conversation for another time.

10. Selena Gomez, “Good for You”

Ft. A$AP Rocky

Revival • Interscope • 2015

Selena Gomez, Revival © Interscope“Now you say I got a touch / So good, so good / make you never wanna leave…” Even before being stricken with the inability to “keep her hands to herself”, Selena Gomez was proceeding towards the steamy.  Prior to her Revival LP, she was definitely moving past her Disney years. While  “Come and Get It” (Stars Dance) suffered from copycatting Rihanna stylistically, it didn’t take too many brain cells to figure out what Gomez was asking men to “come and get…na na na na…” The song at hand, “Good for You”, is clearly meant to titillate, though it doesn’t ‘overstep its boundaries’ you might say.

Gomez wants to ensure her sex-appeal is on-point, as the opening lyric of this blurb confirms.  Even with her cooing, low-key vocals, the steam is amplified as she sings, “Gonna wear that dress you like, skin-tight” and later “leave this dress a mess on the floor.”  Interestingly, two years later, her pal Taylor Swift would also sing about taking off her dress… The coolest lyric?  “…Syncopate my skin to your heart beating.” Get it girl!

11. R. Kelly, “Cookie”

Black Panties • RCA • 2013

R. Kelly, Black Panties [Photo Credit: RCA]“You wonder how I’m the best and can do all this with my mouth? /…My bed can be your stage / And I’mma make you a star / Your legs in the air and my hands all up in your cookie jar.” Perhaps it’s moments like “Cookie” where R. Kelly needs to be muted, regardless of the damning allegations against him. After hearing “Cookie,” mark my words – you’ll never think of Oreos the same. No, they will never ever be the innocent, decadent cookies because the self-proclaimed ‘sex genius’ ruined it for everybody. They’ve become a sexual, representation of the lustfulness of R. Kelly. He even goes so far that he screws up an innocent childhood character – Cookie Monster from Sesame Street: “Cookie, cookie, cookie, I’m a cookie monster.” Take your pick of naughtiness, but it all seems to come back to the genitals.

“Mmm, like an Oreo / I love to lick the middle like an Oreo / Oreo, Oreo, like an Oreo / I wanna bite it, and get inside it (‘til I get you gone).”

A few other notes.  “Cookie” appears on an album entitled Black Panties, which features some of the ‘classiest’ artwork you’ll ever see…said no one ever. Furthermore, Oreo – I mean “Cookie” – is only one instance of Kelly’s overindulgence into sex. The opening song, “Legs Shakin’” (featuring Ludacris), references cunnilingus…. ‘course, so does “Cookie,” so…
