11 Songs That Are Nothing Short of a 'Wreck'11 Songs That Are Nothing Short of a ‘Wreck’ features songs with the world ‘wreck’ in their title, courtesy of Big Sean, Florence + The Machine, Miley Cyrus and many more.

Playlists – that’s what we do at The Musical Hype.  Lots and lots of ‘em, sigh.  Our latest compilation focuses on one word: wreck.  The criteria for this playlist is simple.  The song title must have the word ‘wreck’ in its title.  Artists featured on 11 Songs That Are Nothing Short of a ‘Wreck’ include Big Sean, Florence + The Machine, and Miley Cyrus.

1. Big Sean & Metro Boomin, “Pull Up N Wreck” (Ft. 21 Savage)

Big Sean & Metro Boomin, Double or Nothing [📷: Def Jam / Republic]“I know some East Side niggas and they love to bang / Know some West Side niggas like to do the same thing / Pull up and wreck, pull up and wreck / Pull up and wreck, pull up and wreck.” Big Sean is cocky and confident throughout the course of “Pull Up N Wreck,” the crowning achievement of Double or Nothing. 21 Savage, like Sean, raps about sex, as well as material things and violence. Unsung hero Metro Boomin stitches up this banger with sleek, malicious production work.

2. Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”

Bangerz • RCA • 2013

Writers: David Kim, Henry Walter, Lukasz Gottwald (Dr. Luke), Maureen “Mozella” McDonald, Miley Cyrus, Sacha Skarbek & Stephan Moccio | Producers: Cirkut & Dr. Luke

Miley Cyrus, BANGERZ [📷: RCA]“I came in like a wrecking ball / I never hit so hard in love / All I wanted was to break your walls / All you ever did was wreck me / Yeah you, you wreck me.” “Wrecking Ball” received its most attention for a nude Miley Cyrus swinging from a wrecking ball. That’s unfortunate as the song deserved better than that – it’s a legitimately great pop song without the theatrics.

3. James Arthur, “Train Wreck”

Back from the Edge • Sony • 2016

Writers: Adam Argyle, Andrew Jackson & James Arthur | Producers: Adam Argyle

“Un-break the broken / Un-say these spoken words / Find hope in the hopeless / Pull me out the train wreck / Unburn the ashes / Unchain the reactions now / I’m not ready to die not yet / Pull me out the train wreck / Pull me out, pull me out.” James Arthur really shows off the uniqueness of his voice beautiful, emotional ballad “Train Wreck.”  The cracks and nuances of his instrument are absolutely stunning here.

4. Florence + The Machine, “Ship to Wreck”

How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful • Island • 2015

Writers: Florence Welch & Tom Hull | Producers: Kid Harpoon & Markus Dravs

“And, ah, my love remind me, what was it that I said? / I can’t help but pull the earth around me to make my bed / And, ah, my love remind me, what was it that I did? / Did I drink too much? Am I losing touch? / Did I build a ship to wreck?” It’s clear on the energetic “Ship to Wreck” that Florence Welch has seen her relationships go to hell. She wants to know exactly wht she did to cause “this ship to wreck.” “To wreck, to wreck, to wreck /Did I build this ship to wreck?”

5. Eric Church, “Like A Wrecking Ball”

The Outsiders • EMI Nashville • 2014

Writers: Casey Beathard & Eric Church | Producers: Jay Joyce

“That old house is gonna be shaking / I hope those bricks and boards can take it / But I won’t be surprised is the whole damn place just falls / I’m gonna rock you baby, like a wrecking ball.” After being on the road doing extensive shows, country musician Eric Church can’t wait to get home and make some serious love with his wife, Katherine. He’s fully charged and ready to “do it.”

6. Ryan Adams, “My Wrecking Ball”

Ryan Adams • Blue Note • 2014

Writer/Producer: Ryan Adams

“And all the walls we built they must come down.” Uh oh – a break up has clearly affected Ryan Adams on this joint. “My Wrecking Ball” appears on his Grammy-nominated, self-titled album, released in 2014.  “But hey, you’re my wrecking ball won’t you come and maybe knock me down.” At the end, he states, “I wish I could call you, I wish you were still around.”

Writers: Alicia Keys, Harold Lilly, Jack Splash & Mathew Kahane | Producers: Alicia Keys & Jack Splash

“Have that wreckless love / That crazy love / That ‘off the wall,’ ‘won’t stop ‘til I get enough’ kind of love / I need that love so baby, let’s go / Have that wreckless love that crazy love / That I don’t really care we can have it anywhere / Kind of love that wreckless love.” Alicia Keys brings old-school Michael Jackson into the mix to describe how the love is going to go down.

8. Five Finger Death Punch, “Wrecking Ball”

The Wrong Side of Heaven and The Righteous Side of Hell, Vol. 2 • PROSPECT PARK • 2013

Writers: Zoltan Bathory, Kevin Churko, Ivan Lewis Greening, Thomas Grinstead & Jeremy Spencer Hyde | Producers: Five Finger Death Punch

“Ripped up – zip it up / Really never gave a fuck / Wrecking ball – fuck ‘em all / Never had a doubt.” “Wrecking Ball” is everything you’d expect for a band who ‘gives no fucks’ named Five Finger Death Punch.  The aggression continues on, without any more ‘effs’ given.  “Why should I / Always be the one to back away / Why should I / Have to be the one to not say what’s on my mind / I’m a motherfucking wrecking ball.”

9. Marilyn Manson, “Warship My Wreck”

The Pale Emperor • Loma Vista • 2015

Writers /Producers: Marilyn Manson & Tyler Bates

“You can’t ever say that I’m breaking the rules / If I can’t glue them back together / Scars on my fingers, bruises, my neck / Crashin’ my trains, warship my wreck.” When he wasn’t “Killing Strangers,” being “The Mephistopheles of Los Angeles,” or being on the “Third Day of a Seven Day Binge,” Marilyn Manson was being darkly poetic on “Warship My Wreck.” As always, he incorporates multiple meanings in to his lyrics.  “Cut the hands off / Kamikaze into your soul… / Worship my wreck.”

10. Glen Hansard, “Wreckless Heart”

Between Two Shores • Plateau • 2018

Writers: Glen Hansard

“Wreckless heart / Take hold of the wheel / You’re headed for a fall… / Torn apart / Is how you’ll feel / But it’s all for love.” Essentially, Glen Hansard speaks on the power and reckless nature of the heart and love.  “Gonna ride that river to the sea / Gonna cry that river out of me.”

11. MIKExANGEL, “Wreckless”

NOTHiN 2 SOMETHiN • 300 Entertainment • 2017

“Tell me it’s mine when we shouldn’t do that / Turn off your phone, don’t you hold back / Let’s go get lost, roll up and unwind, you should, you should / ‘Cause I’ll give it to you good, I’ll give it to you better (every time) / I’ll give it to you good, I’ll make that pussy wetter.” If it wasn’t obvious, MIKExANGEL is singing about sex. Prior to the aforementioned chorus, he aks on the pre-chorus, “Why am I so wreckless? Your friends are on my checklist… / Dodgin’ all your questions, I love you when we’re sexin’…”
