1. Mike WiLL Made-It, Chief Keef & YoungBoy Never Broke Again, “ROOMS”

The keyword is… “ROOMS”! Mike WiLL Made-It taps Chief Keef and YoungBoy Never Broke Again for the spirited eighth track from his 2026 album, R3SET. Simply put, “ROOMS” is a banger. Mike WiLL Made-It, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and Chief Keef wrote “ROOMS” with producers AYE SHARK!, KC Da Beatmonster, and Truebeatzz.  Expectedly, Mike WiLL Made-It produced it as well.

From the jump, “ROOMS” is turnt up! The brassy production, set in a minor key, sets the tone. Soon enough, a hard-hitting, souped-up trap beat provides a mighty anchor 💪. YoungBoy Never Broke Again dominates the song early on. Not only does he perform the intro, but he also performs the melodic opening verse, chorus, and the third and final verse.  Although brief, YBNBA concludes the first verse, melodically rapping, “Time to spin on shit ‘cause they shot at me / I gotta focus, I’m livin’ out my dream.” Word. Some of the words in the chorus that follows are a bit hard to decipher, given his syrupy delivery. Still, the way he melodically raps it is part of the charm.

“I’m rollin’, nothin’ but women around me, I won’t hurt nobody

Drink out the bottle, tryna solve my problems

Shawty my drugs, she substitutin’ my narcotics

Wanna ride on my bus with nothin’ but dollars and some choppers in the rooms.”

Chief Keef raps the second verse, his sole contribution, which is lengthier. “Always smokin’, I think I’m an addict / I’m in the joint, and I ride with a baddie,” he raps, and continues, “You know I’m up like a motherfuckin’ addict / Doo-doo-doo-doo, you know we ain’t lackin’.” Keef keeps it buck, exuding toughness, particularly with violent lines like “Shot his ass while he was jumpin’ the fence,” and “Put his head with the spikes up in the motherfuckin’ fridge.” Following a second chorus by YoungBoy Never Broke Again, he drops the third and final verse (“Tried to run it, I fumbled, now back in the league / I’m that 38 Baby, I’ll make ‘em believe, Top, nigga”). He also closes out “ROOMS” with the chorus and outro.  In short, Mike WiLL Made-It, Chief Keef, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again dropped a surefire, kickass banger with “ROOMS”.

2. kwn, “‘til the room stinks” (Ft. Ty Dolla $ign)

Early on in “‘til the room stinks”, British R&B singer-songwriter kwn (Khyra Wilson) stands on business.  The small talk is out… time to get D-O-W-N! Wilson doesn’t bring out the stench all by herself either.  She taps the multifaceted, Grammy-nominated Ty Dolla $ign for the assist on this naughty, sexed-up affair. “‘Til the room stinks” is the fifth track from kwn’s 2026 album, and all pride aside. Indeed! Kwn composed “room stinks” with Ty Dolla $ign, Will Gregory, and Jonathan Olorunfemi. Willcomodo and Elevated produced it.

Smelly or not 🤭, “‘Til the room stinks” has a lot going for it. It is well produced. The backdrop and musical lyrics keep the same energy.  How? The lyrics are sensual, while the accompaniment matches with its own sensual-sounding musical cues.  Kwn is bold early on, continuing in the first verse, “I don’t give a fuck about no neighbors / I want my name at the top of your lungs.” Damn, girl! That’s just the tip: “Head to toe with the tip of my tongue / I-I-I wanna watch your shaking them legs.” That’s a crystal clear picture.  Ty Dolla $ign takes the reins in the second verse, beginning with the titular lyric: “Oh, ‘til the room stinks / Undo my belt girl get me out these pants.” He adds, “Fuck you so good girl now you back again / Throwing it back again, looking back at it.” Sex, sex, and more sex.  The centerpiece is the chorus, with the assertive performances by the background vocals, uttering, “‘TIL THE ROOM STINKS.” A nasty but utterly satisfying two-and-a-half minutes, “‘til the room stinks” is simply unforgettable.

3. Luke Combs, “Sleepless in a Hotel Room”

country singer-songwriter Luke Combs asserts, and adds, “I can feel the whiskey not do anything.” Oh, my! Those two lyrics from the first verse of “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” set the tone.  This intriguing, minor-key country single is the 13^th track from Combs’s sixth studio album, The Way I Am. Combs wrote “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” with Jonathan Singleton and Randy Montana. Combs produced the track with Singleton and Chip Matthews.

“Sleepless in a Hotel Room” cooks for many reasons.  It begins with the sound, countrified musical accompaniment.  The backdrop is on fire, thanks to the colorful, rhythmic plucked and strummed strings and the assertive drums. Beyond the solid foundation, the star of the show is Luke Combs, who impresses with his dynamic, expressive, and nuanced vocals.  Combs brings the melodies alive.  They are tuneful from start to finish.  Maintaining engagement, there is a sizable contrast between the verses and the chorus. How does the chorus separate itself? It’s gargantuan – go big or go home, baby! The chorus is the crème de la crème – the section to beat:

“The morning light can’t come too soon

Lyin’ here not next to you

Wide awake, I dream of you

Sleepless in a hotel room.”

The post-chorus is notable, too: “Woah-oh-awoah-woah-oh-awoah.” Woo! Following the second post-chorus, there is a sweet electric guitar solo. The bridge follows, contrasting the verses and the chorus. “Our four walls are painted blue,” Combs sings, and concludes, “Sleepless in a hotel room / A thousand miles past missin’ you.” All told, Luke Combs brings it on “Sleepless in a Hotel Room”.

4. Malcolm Todd, “Roommates”

Bummer, bummer, Malcolm Todd (Malcolm Todd Hobert).  What’s not a bummer for the alternative singer-songwriter is his craft. Todd is quite creative, composing and recording intriguing songs. “Roommates”, the second track from his 2024 mixtape, Sweet Boy, is one of those intriguing songs.  Todd wrote it; he produced it with Charlie Ziman.  Also, it gets a fun music video… that’s mostly unrelated to the theme of the song.  Still, entertaining!

In “Roommates,” the theme and lyrics are familiar to Malcolm Todd’s music: love and all things love-adjacent.  In the first verse, clearly, things are unravelling within the relationship. “You’ve been alright / You’re losing time for me and our fights,” he sings, and continues, “So, I’m done writing for you, baby / Now this gon’ be the last I got.” The end is here, PERIODT.  In the second verse, he continues to be introspective, singing, “I’m losing the person I was when I found you.” So, where does the roommate thing come into play besides the video? So glad you asked: “I wanna share an apartment, a room, and a bed / I wanna tell you I love you, but I cannot reach you.” Oh, the finality! The plight of love! In the outro, predictably, he’s not over her: “When I try someone else, I’ll still miss you.” Beyond the striking lyrics and vulnerability, Malcolm Todd delivers an expressive, well-rounded vocal performance. He’s chill and easygoing yet potent. Additionally, our sweet boy composes sweet melodies, while the production and palette of sounds (guitars, bass, keys, and drums) supporting him are sublime. “Roommates”, unsurprisingly, earned gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. More surprising is the fact that the song earned the certification without touching the Billboard Hot 100.

5. Parsa Sleighter, “Bedroom Superstar”

If you haven’t peeped Parsa Sleighter via social media, you are missing a treat.  The eyes don’t lie… he is a beautiful specimen.  And yes, he often refrains from wearing a shirt.  No complaint here.  Beyond being a beautiful man, Sleighter possesses a beautiful instrument.  The last time I covered the self-described alternative princess was in 2024: “A Playboy’s Blues”. Once again, Sleighter provides sweet music to my ears with the four-minute ballad, “Bedroom Superstar”. Ooh-la-la, Parsa! He wrote and produced this impressive track.

“Bedroom Superstar” is a vibe from the beginning.  Parsa Sleighter is unafraid to lean into experimental, alternative, and psychedelic cues and sounds.  The musical backdrop is celestial, with the detuned keyboard, organ, and synths. The drum groove is solid but non troppo, anchoring the ballad moving along. In no rush, Parsa sumptuously captures an ambient, dream-like aesthetic.  When the song is titled “Bedroom Superstar,” that is the expectation, right? Bedroom pop. With its sleepy, somnambulant aesthetic, the track makes me want to float… and of course, sleep and cuddle with someone fine.  Vocally, Sleighter delivers enigmatic, indulgent, and warm vocals.  His tone is gorgeous as he brings the melodies and lyrics to life. Is he a male Lana Del Rey? He sort of sounds like it here, riding the lush backdrop with ease.  I could continue to expound upon my analysis, but Parsa Sleighter and “Bedroom Superstar” are best enjoyed by experiencing them – seeing, listening, and straight-up vibing.

6. Rick Glam, “DARK ROOM”

Brazilian electronic musician Rick Glam (Paulo Silva) has sex on his mind with “DARK ROOM”, the eighth and final cut from VAMPIRE AFTER DARK. Anytime a room is dark, beware, particularly when it comes to the LGBTQ+ scene. Glam adds in the chorus, “The whole party stops when you move, when you move / Let your body bloom under the moon.” Blooming under the moon, huh, Rick? Yep, it’s going down! “DARK ROOM” thrives from the beginning thanks to its unsettling, dark, enigmatic instrumental. Nocturnal to the nth degree, the instrumental sounds seedy and suspect. Complementing the sound are the equally enigmatic and playful vocals by Glam.  His vocals are breathy, talky, and feel drenched in… naughtiness. “Sexy silhouette triple shots, I’m so high,” he sings in the first verse, and adds, “I’m moving like a flame, serving body all night.” Ooh-wee, not only is he confident, with the body body-ing, he wants to have some fun! “I’ll show you some things, turn you on, get you right.” That sounds devilish! Things do feel right, however, given the fact that “There’s something special for you tonight,” and there’s the perfect opportunity to “Free your body in the dark room, dark room.” Clothes off, boys! Rick Glam keeps things both ear-catching and sex-positive on “DARK ROOM”, a surefire vibe for any time of the year.

7. Ansel Elgort, “guestroom”

“guestroom” » ansel’s records » 2024

By trouble, Ansel Elgort, we assume sex.  And sex, my friends, is what “guestroom” sounds like. “Guestroom” marked the first solo single by the handsome and talented singer, songwriter, producer, and actor since 2018 (“Supernova”). This smooth cut, written and produced with Angel López, finds Elgort reigniting his music career. There is a lot to heart. The minimalist production and sexy vibes are sweet. Vocally, Elgort is on point.  He sings the first verse in an undertone that is ear-catching. He doesn’t break a sweat, but it’s hot! He opens his voice more in the pre-chorus, singing, “This love is keepin’ me so cautious, oh / ‘Cause usually, my heart is darkness (woo) cold.” Ooh-wee! He’s at his best in the chorus:

“I remember when I met you

I can see it clear as day

Soakin’ wet in the guest room

You remember all the trouble we made?

A Dolce swimsuit, body had me blown away

On the grass where the buds bloom

Remember all the places we laid?”

“Guestroom” is brief but potent. Purely from a musical perspective, Elgort delivers awesome summery vibes.  It’s sexy without crossing the line.

8. Travis Scott, “Highest in the Room”

“HIGHEST IN THE ROOM” » Cactus Jack Records, LLC / Epic Records » 2019

In 2019, Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott dropped the vibe-laden single “Highest in the Room”. The record, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified multiplatinum, opens with an enigmatic intro, while the entire record maintains his signature vibes. The record, which sports a ‘calm energy,’ was produced by OZ and Nik D. It features chill, sleek production, including rhythmic drum programming. “When I’m with you, I feel alive / You say you love me, don’t you lie / Won’t cross my heart, don’t wanna die / Keep the pistol on my side…” Scott delivers easy-going, low-key rhymes. He doesn’t necessarily say much ‘explicitly,’ but reading into his lyrics, such as the excerpt from the first verse, you can trace some of the personal elements, including his former relationship with Kylie Jenner.  Scott also references the vices of fame, including literally being high, etc. The chorus is simple but effective given the weight of ‘vibes’ when it comes to Travis’ music:

“Case it’s fumes (Smoke)

She fill my mind up with ideas (Straight up)

I’m the highest in the room (It’s lit)

Hope I make it outta here (Let’s go, yeah).”

Shifting back to the production, there are some additional cues during the final minute of the record that maintain the freshness and also elevate the energy and intensity level up a notch. “Highest in the Room” = hypnotic 😵‍💫.

9. Loo-Loo Belle, “I’ve Locked Hubby in the Red Room”

Oh, snap, Loo-Loo Belle! What are his crimes, ma’am? “He left the fucking / Toilet seat up again / Now he’s trapped / Can’t be a prick.” Oh, shit! Wonder if he peed all over it, too! Damn, these men! Who is this diva, anyhow? Loo-Loo Belle is a 1970s AI funk diva known for her electrifying performances and infectious grooves, per Spotify. The keyword: AI. Expectedly, “I’ve Locked Hubby in the Red Room” is outlandish, which goes with the territory with AI songs. It is the fifth track from her 2024 album, This Is My Kingdom (I Reign Supreme).

“I’ve Locked My Hubby in the Red Room” is brief, running two minutes and change. Even so, despite being AI, many elements of the song are impressive.  The instrumental is drenched in soul, sounding like it could’ve easily hailed from the 1970s.  Loo-Loo Belle embodies a soul diva, delivering a strong, passionate vocal performance.  The main reason the song is wild is the explicit, unapologetic, and outlandish lyrics.  There weren’t many ‘70s soul divas who dropped f and s-bombs in the music they released, even if they were potty-mouthed in private (“I don’t mess around / I fuck hard”).  Still, the energy is high-flying, particularly in the chorus, where Mrs. Belle sings:

“He’s tied up

And I’m the boss

With feathered whips

He’s at a loss

Fifty shades

Of fucking fun

Teaching him not

To leave shit undone.”

👀… Women’s empowerment, but also, a heaping dose of BDSM (“Now he’s in leather / Feeling the stress”)… 👀. Other offenses that earned the hubby being tied up: Not doing dishes and a messy car. “I’ve Locked Hubby in the Red Room” is best taken with a grain of salt.  One thing’s for sure, though – Loo-Loo Belle is NOT vanilla.

10. John Legend, “Save Room”

In the 2000s,  Academy Award and Grammy Award winner  John Legend established himself as one of R&B’s most soulful and most talented artists.  He excelled in the neo-soul realm, delivering two particularly strong LPs: Get Lifted (2004) and Once Again (2006).  Focusing on the latter, Once Again found Legend further elevating his skills. “Save Room”, which brilliantly samples  “Stormy” by Gábor Szabó, shows the Legend at his finest.  The modus operandi is simple: love, love, and more love.  “Say you’ll be mine / Just a little bit of love / Is worth a moment of time,” Legend sings in the first verse.  In the second, he adds, “This just might hurt a little / But, love hurts sometimes when you do it right / Don’t be afraid of a little bit of pain / Pleasure is on the other side.” Hmm, the question is, how much pain in the name of pleasure, Johnny boy? Regardless, “Save Room” for love is a surefire vibe.  Sophisticated, classy, and soulful vocals from John Legend, marvelous production from will.i.am, and love-oriented songwriting make this an aughts classic!

11. Stevie Nicks, “Rooms on Fire”

The Other Side of the Mirror » Modern Records » 1989

Those lyrics stand out for sure. Grammy-winning  Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks (b. 1948) is adept at music.  That is an understatement. She excelled with Fleetwood Mac and has experienced a lucrative solo career. “Rooms on Fire” is a gem from her catalog. It is the opener from her fourth solo album, the platinum-certified The Other Side of the Mirror, released in 1989.  A pop hit, it peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Pretty impressive. Nicks and fellow Hall of Fame songwriter Rick Nowels (b. 1960) wrote it, while Rupert Hine (1947 – 2020), whom she dated briefly between 1988 and 1989, produced it. Interestingly, Nicks no longer performs “Rooms on Fires” live.

“Rooms on Fire” is great for a plethora of reasons.  The songwriting is captivating throughout, with clever, thoughtful lyrics. The first verse excerpted earlier sets the tone. “She dreamed of her wanton luxury, / And she laughed, and she cried, and she tried to taunt him,” Nicks sings in the second verse, and continues, “And he hated to be separated / From that picture, no.” The chorus is the crème de la crème.  It’s catchy, tuneful, and all the things!

“Well, maybe I’m just thinking that the rooms are all on fire

Every time that you walk in the room

Well, there is magic all around you, if I do say so myself

I have known this much longer than I’ve known you.”

The bridge confirms the magic mentioned in the chorus, with the centerpiece concluding the record.  Stevie Nicks sounds beautiful with her distinct, expressive, and husky pipes.  Those vocals truly soar during the chorus.  Beyond striking lyrics and vocals, “Rooms” is melodious.  Also, it’s well-produced, with a shimmering pop/rock palette – keys/synths, guitars, bass, and drums. ‘80s to the core, Nicks has the perfect backdrop to fuel her fire.  More could be said, but does it really need to be? No, the music does the heavy lifting. All told, “Rooms on Fire” is an irresistibly delicious pop/rock bop.  This is Nicks at her best, even though it comes from a troubling period for the beloved musician.
