Yo Gotti, Wait for It | Track Review 🎵

Yo Gotti has been “kind of a big deal” in 2016, thanks to “Down in the DM.” He returns with a new single, “Wait For It,” which appears off the EPIC LIT playlist.  Gotti gets an assist from Blac Youngsta.  Is “Wait For It” as savvy as “Down in the DM?” No, but it’s pretty infectious.

“Wait For It” opens with the infectious hook from the jump.  This is a prudent move to get the listeners hyped up. The production is malicious, featuring a hard rhythmic beat, ostinato synth line, and strings. “Wait For It” suits Gotti’s sexed-up, style. He’s cocky and confident as ever.

The lyrical content isn’t deep – period.

“I be f*cking with the bad b*tches / good credit she could pay for it”

The profundity of “Wait For It” doesn’t improve:

“Rollie on without the time set, on my young n*gga mindset…”

The best attribute other than the production is a catchy, repetitive hook:

“Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it / wanna come home but can’t wait for it / head shot can’t run from it / wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it / pussy come can’t wait for it / pussy good, I’ll pay for it…”

Final Thoughts

“Wait for It” has a hypnotic quality – it sort of sucks the listener in.  This is typical Yo Gotti, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s drenched in money, sex, and bravado – not meant to be transcendent or filled with depth. All in all, “Wait For It” is exceptionally produced and catchy.
