Dutch DJ/producer duo Yellow Claw taps Dutch singer Rochelle for “Waiting,” presumably the final advance single from their third album, ‘New Blood.’
Dutch DJ/producer duo Yellow Claw – Jim Taihuttu and Nils Rondhuis – are known for “bass-heavy productions and riotous performances.” The duo has dropped numerous singles in 2018, in preparation for their third album, New Blood. Singles released in advance of the project include “Villain”, “Bittersweet”, “Fake Chanel”, “To the Max”, and “Public Enemy” (with DJ Snake). The final presumed advanced single, “Waiting,” finds Taihuttu and Nils assisted by 26-year old Dutch singer, Rochelle.
“I don’t need no words when I, when I said / ‘Love, I need you here right now,’ is what you said.” Sigh, the love vibes. Initially on “Waiting,” Yellow Claw slackens the pace a smidge. Even so, the energy remains fully intact. The production continues to compel, beginning with a stunning, lush accompanying pad. Rochelle beautifully and expressively sings over this backdrop, before the record’s transformation begins on the chorus. Naturally, Rochelle becomes more assertive, digging in much like the production does. The lyrics of the chorus correspond to the looming transformation: “I’m ready for your love / I’ve been waiting and waiting…” The rhythm intensifies, leading into the breakdown section that’s dominated by a biting, hard-nosed synth.
Final Thoughts
Once again, Yellow Claw delivers the goods. While “Waiting” isn’t quite as electrifying as their last couple of advance singles – namely “To the Max” and “Public Enemy,” it’s incredibly consistent. Rochelle, who’s previously collaborated with the duo, certainly shines here. The big winner, as always – the production. Vibes man, vibes.
