Welcome to Music Lifts, featuring songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.  Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the 18th edition of Music Lifts (2026), we highlight “ANGELS” as performed by Voices of Fire and Pharrell Williams.

“Mind how you act / Strangers might be angels / So just be aware / You probably already met one.”
Quite possible! Voices of Fire and Pharrell Williams came to praise Him! Amen! Hallelujah! Who are these Voices of Fire? They are Lauren Hendrick, Megan Buhmann, T. Alexandria Gray, and Yunassea Thomas (sopranos); Colette Williams, Jazmine Canales, Maria Rosado, and Trenise Hollomon (altos); Jahzeel Mumford, Kamron Blue, and Larry George (tenors).  They deliver the energetic, contemporary gospel record “ANGELS”, which has Pharrell’s fingerprints all over it. In other words, this is NOT a traditional gospel record; the sound is R&B-infused.  “ANGELS” is the 10th track from OPHANIM, released with the full-length tracks in March 2026. It was written by Williams, J. Drew Sheard II, Bishop Ezekiel Williams, and Terius Gesteelde -Diamant (Terius “The-Dream” Nash). Williams produced it.

The big takeaway: Be a Good Samaritan. “But here’s someone that you don’t know, or where they come from / There’s just something about ‘em, they got a glow,” they sing in the first verse, and conclude, “They let you know that they’re the ones that’s in need at this time / And you must decide.”  The vibe is similar in the second verse: “You burning ‘em [strangers in need] instead of building the bridges / Never know when you gonna need to cross them.” Voices of Fire remind us, “This moment’s a door, don’t you knock Him / And you know God is watching,” and later, in the bridge, ask, “Tell me, what would Jesus do when you needed Him, friend?” Sometimes, the tables are turned, and instead of being the one with the ability to help, you are the one in need. The chorus, excerpted earlier, sums up living as a Christian ought: living more like Jesus.

“Could be on a path

Like the One born in a manager

So just be prepared

‘Cause your life could change at once.”

All in all, “ANGELS” is a meaningful contemporary gospel that preaches about being a Good Samaritan – helping those in need.  Honestly, they just might be angels. Voices of Fire sing beautifully, eating up Williams’ fresh, vibrant, and percussion-heavy production.  The trunk will still rattle with this one!
