Usher, Summer Walker & 21 Savage, Good Good | Track Review 🎵

Usher, Summer Walker, and 21 Savage join forces for “Good Good,” an enjoyable single that is just that – GOOD, GOOD!

Perhaps 🎙 Usher isn’t the R&B (and pop) superstar he was in his heyday BUT he remains a force to be reckoned with in his 40s.  That’s right, the fine 😍, 🏆 Grammy winner has still got it, something he proves without a hitch on the single 🎵 “Good Good” which is indeed, “good, good!” On this four-minutes-and-change bop, he’s joined by 🎙 Summer Walker, a female R&B standout, and 🏆 Grammy winning rapper, 🎙 21 Savage.  Again, have I mentioned this is a BOP?

Beginning with the sound of the record, “Good Good” features slick production work courtesy of  🎛 Mel & Mus.  There is a nice balance of ‘older’ contemporary R&B and modern R&B.  This joint, hence fits the Usher of old, but definitely does not sound anachronistic or the slightest bit out of place in 2023.  Unsurprisingly, Usher’s vocal are #GIVING, plus he has some tuneful melodies to deliver in the first verse and chorus.  He’s supported by sweet harmonies, which up the ante. Of course, the centerpiece is the chorus, which is catchy and definitely exemplifies being “good, good!”

“I hate that we didn’t make it to forever

Probably ain’t gettin’ back together

But that don’t mean that I can’t wish you better (Oh-oh)

We ain’t good good, but we still good.”

After dropping the first two choruses, Summer Walker arrives in the second verse, providing both complement and contrast. At times, we underrate Walker because of her more modest approach but she has an amazing voice. Like Usher’s background vocals in the first verse, I love the backing vocals that support her as well.  There is a great blend of both singers in the third chorus, prior to the arrival of the one and only 21 Savage.  Like Usher and Summer, he is not outdone, riding the smooth production like a champ 💪.  The cat 😸 has already been let out of the bag – 🎵 “Good Good” is a BOP!!!
