Scanning the Charts (7/7/21): Tyler, The Creator & Doja Cat top the Billboard 200 while BTS remain atop on the Hot 100.
Well, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isnβt extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out EIGHT notable observations from the Billboard 200 , and FOUR observations from the Billboard Hot 100
, with
Tyler, The Creator and
Doja Cat topping the Billboard 200 at nos. 1 and 2 respectively with their impressive efforts
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST and
Planet Her.
Billboard 200
Tyler, The Creator has done it once more! He earns his second no. 1 album with
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. Moving 169,000 units, he easily crowns the Billboard 200.
Doja Cat was always a contender to top the Billboard 200 as well.
Planet Her performs well, debuting in the runner up spot β a career high.
Latin standout
Rauw Alejandro earns the final debut in the top 20 of the Billboard 200.
Vice Versa launches at no. 17.
Academy award and Grammy-winning R&B artist
H.E.R. sees her debut album,
Back of My Mind, slide from no. 6 to no 18 in its second charting week.
Earning a top-40 berth,
Beartooth debuts at no. 30 with
Below, while
Ski Mask The Slump God bows at no. 39 with
Sin City: The Mixtape.
Grammy-nominated rapper
Logic reappears on the charts thanks to the debut of
YS Collection, Vol. 1 at no. 56.
A couple of formerly successful musicians see unimpressive debuts. Country artist
Gary Allan launches at no. 86 with
Ruthless while alternative darlings
Modest Mouse start at no. 87 with
The Golden Casket.
Three more debuts worth noting:
Hiatus Kaiyote arrives at no. 103 (
Mood Valiant),
Lucy Dacus at no. 104 (
Home Video), and
Surfaces β the
βSunday Bestβ dudes β at no. 141 (
Pacifico)
Billboard Hot 100
BTS spends a sixth consecutive week on top of the Billboard Hot 100 with
βButterβ.
Ed Sheeran launches at no. 5 with
βBad Habitsβ. Thatβs a strong start, but Iβm a bit surprised it didnβt perform even stronger to be honest.
Doja Cat already had a top-five hit with
βKiss Me Moreβ featuring
SZA. She adds a no. 11 hit with βYou Right,β her
Planet Her duet with
The Weeknd. Doja has other chart debuts as well.
With the no. 1 album on his hands, itβs not surprising to see
Tyler, The Creator to chart highly on the Hot 100 as well.
βWUSYANAMEβ, featuring
YoungBoy Never Broke Again and
Ty Dolla $ign, bows at no. 14. Tyler has other chart debuts as well.
