Tyga, Goddamn [Photo Credits: Last Kings Music / EMPIRE]Tyga keeps it incredibly ‘classy’ (said no one ever) on his explicitly-titled single, “Goddamn.” His focus? His drip and sex.

Naturally, a song titled “Goddamn” doesn’t lend itself to substance, such is the case with this particular record.  That said, ‘substance’ isn’t usually associated with Tyga in the least.  Over the years, the California rapper has given the world the likes of “Rack City” and “Faded” – enough said. He’s back once again with the short and bluntly-titled “Goddamn,” which clocks in at just over two-and-a-half minutes.

The production work (d.a. doman) is interesting, blending hip-hop with a country-western vibe; it’s not nearly as pronounced as say “Old Town Road,” but the fiddle gives it a dash of country sensibility. The chorus is shallow, as to be expected:

“(Goddamn) You a bad bitch, come and get your rent paid

Ain’t got time for no drama, but today the day

(Goddamn) And my watch gotta be president

You coming with me, I don’t care what your friend say.”

Later, the post-chorus is a continuation, exemplifying the shallowness as Tyga spits, “Move your panties to the side, I be in it all night.” Of course, the first post-chorus doesn’t arrive until after the first verse. Here, the rapper focuses on his drip and unsurprisingly, sex, asserting:

“And she in the backroom working, working

Fucking on my lap and she cursing, cursing

Nigga like me, I don’t show no mercy

When it get wet, feel like I’m surfing.”

The second verse is patterned similarly, with Tyga referencing his Lambo, as well as his sexual prowess (“Beat it like ‘Billie Jean’, then I say hee hee (hee hee)”).

Final Thoughts

Tyga doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but for what it is – a clubby banger – “Goddamn” is successful.  If you’re searching for something more transcendent, WELL, you’ll likely be disappointed (understatement).
