Troye Sivan, The Good Side © CapitolFollowing groovy, sexy, promo single “My My My!,” Australian pop artist Troye Sivan returns with his second single of 2018, the thoughtful “The Good Side.”

Troye Sivan took the alternative pop world by storm with his 2015 debut album, Blue Neighbourhood.  What made the album so special was its social significance, with Sivan exploring the impact of his sexuality on his life.  There was an honesty and openness about the project.  After impressing on his first single of 2018, “My My My!”, Sivan keeps things rolling on his second single, “The Good Side.”

“The Good Side” initiates with an electronic harp-sound synth/sound effect, before rhythm acoustic guitar shifts to a more intimate backdrop.  That initial electronic palette recurs throughout portions of “The Good Side.” Sivan sounds refined and thoughtful upon entance. His vocals are naturally beautiful, and amplified even more thanks to excellent vocal production.  Lyrically, he’s honest and open.

Centering around love – addressed to his ex-boyfriend and referencing his new boyfriend – its poetic, positive, and thoughtful.

“I got the good side of you / Send it out into the blue / The people danced to the sound of your heart / The world sang along to it falling apart /… Then I got the good side of new / Found arms to fall right into / I know how it looked, it wasn’t the plan / And someday I hope that you’ll understand.”

Sivan apologizes for how things went down on the memorable:

“But I sympathize, and I recognize / And baby, I apologize / That I got the good side / The good side of things.”

The production remains relatively sparse through the course of the first and second verses, as well as the first two chorus. In between the second chorus and the bridge, there’s an electronic-instrumental burst that the listener’s been anticipating.  Things settle down once more on the bridge and chorus, never percolating too pronouncedly.

Final Thoughts

As stated about previously about “My My My!,” Troye Sivan has another winning record on hands. The vocals, songwriting, production, and most of all, the authenticity, makes “The Good Side” a roaring success.
