Troye Sivan continues to build momentum for his highly-anticipated sophomore album, ‘Bloom,’ with his fifth advanced single, “Animal.”
The promotional campaign for Bloom, the highly-anticipated sophomore album by Troye Sivan has been quite lengthy. Hopefully, it will pay off for the hella talented alt-pop artist from Australia (born in South Africa). “Animal” marks the fifth advanced single from Bloom following “My My My!”, “The Good Side”, “Bloom”, and “Dance to This” (featuring Ariana Grande). The results continue to be impressive.
“Animal” begins mysteriously with thunderstorm sound effects and a wobbly, unsettled, sustained synth. The production is superb overall, featuring modern, electro-pop cues mixed with the 80s vibes. The lushness of “Animal” is awesome. This record never gets hurried and never feels overproduced. As for Troye Sivan, he sounds fantastic – ‘cool as a cucumber’ – showcasing clear vocals and never forcing anything. His vulnerability is one of his selling points as an artist.
The chorus is absolutely golden: “I want you all to myself / Don’t leave none for nobody else / I am an animal with you / No angels could beckon me back / And it’s hotter than hell where I’m at / I am an animal with you.” Like much of his career to date, love, particularly as an openly gay male is part of his artistic script. It continues to be effective here. On the contrasting bridge, he has no problems with mentioning his ‘fellow’:
“All is right in the meadow / When I’m lying next to my fellow / Baby, that’s you / Baby, that’s / Baby, that’s you, you-you / One-way trip like an arrow / All laid out like a tarot…”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Animal” is another great musical offering from Troye Sivan. The pacing is excellent, particularly with increased motion on the second verse, and a more musically developed second chorus. If a single is going to cross the four-minute mark, it better be good. “Animal” is indeed good.
