nnuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Like Controversial Tunes 😈🎶, the records featured here raise eyebrows.  The difference between the songs of CONTROVERSY and DARK? These songs specifically focus on the universal topic of S-E-X. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  On the 9th edition of After Dark, we explore the naughty, risqué, and utterly sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Hit Different” by 🎙 Trey Songz.

Theme & Lyrics

“A blunt to the face / Now I want a taste of you.” Well, it seems that 🎙 Trey Songz is getting a ‘two-for-one’ deal essentially.  On 🎵 “Hit Different” from his 2020 album, 💿 Back Home, Trey focuses on getting high and having sex.  Honestly, that’s about the size of it when it comes down to it.  Obviously, the sex hits different when smoking…

Per Songz, whose a sexual connoisseur to say the least (“They say all I talk about is sex”), the weed only heightens the senses when it comes to ‘getting it in.’ Perhaps, but in reality, as contributor Sarah Jacoby of SELF puts it, “cannabis (marijuana) has a bit of a mixed reputation when it comes to sex”.  One can only assume, Songz’s sexual experience with weed is positive… Anyways, in the context of “Hit Different,” lyrically and thematically, Songz is true to self – he hasn’t changed much since arriving on the scene in the aughts.  The sexiest part of the song is the centerpiece, the naughty, risqué, and utterly infectious chorus:

“That shit hit different when we both faded
I put the tip in, watch you go crazy
You know it ain’t a party ‘til we both naked
And we ain’t finished ‘til your legs shakin’.”

Final Thoughts 💭

Honestly, is any further explanation needed? Trey Songz enjoys sex – a lot.  Furthermore, the man’s handsome – a sex symbol.  “Hit Different” isn’t groundbreaking or revolutionary by any means, but it effectively conveys a freaky, sexual experience.  Also, referencing the chorus, unless you live under a rock or are totally naïve, Songz is referencing his joystick and the pleasure it provides to his lady.  I’ll leave it at that.
