Rapper/singer Ty Dolla $ign Ty Dolla Sign, Campaign © Atlanticcontinues to promo his sophomore album Campaign, due September 23. Following the infectious “Zaddy,” Ty dropping new single “3 Wayz.” Simply put, “3 Wayz” is the ultimate example of excess. Both Ty and guest Travis Scott sound “to’ up.”

The sound of “3 Wayz” is mysterious from the jump.  It opens with a reference to “lean” and codeine. Obviously, this is part of the subject matter.  Travis Scott delivers the first half of the hook:

“One more stop ‘fore the world stop
We gon’ roll this loud it’s prohibited
Making money moves off the laptop
Codeine, codeine, codeine, no prescriptions here.”

Ty joins for the rest.

The pace is slow and lethargic. This is an excellent touch considering the druggy nature of the song. In addition to the influence of drugs, Ty Dolla $ign references sex as well:

“N*ggas out of Hennessy, bitch, hit the store
Pour that lean, lean, lean, lean, lean
She gon’ turn to a freak, and I’m gone off a bean…”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “3 Wayz” is some kind of a song. It’s druggy, sexual, and thoroughly irresponsible. Even so, Ty Dolla $ign and Travi$ Scott deliver a hit.  It may lack substance (lean and the codeine in it aside), but this slow jam is irresistible.
