Tove Lo, Bitches [Photo Credit: Universal]The ever-untamed Tove Lo returns with a remix of BLUE LIPS (lady wood phase II) record, “bitches,” featuring Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant, and ALMA.

Some artists are criticized for being middle-of-the-road – too safe.  That’s definitely not Swedish stand out Tove Lo, who always seems to ‘push the envelope.’ A perfect example of living on the edge comes from “Disco Tits”, the ‘perky’ promo single from her third studio album, BLUE LIPS (lady wood phase II).  There also happens to be another edgy number on the album, “bitches,” which appears as the seventh track.  Tove Lo returns with a remix, featuring Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant, and ALMA.  Star-studded to say the least.  Also, worth noting, it explores lesbianism (she’s bisexual).

More and more, LGBTQ (LGBTQIA) are being released into the mainstream, something that wouldn’t have happened so freely and openly years ago.  Tove Lo starts things off on the first verse, which features blunt lines like “Know your own love, I don’t f**k with no glove” and “Let me be your guide when you eat my pu**y out.” Charli XCX, who also appeared on another lesbian/bi- anthem (“Girls”) drops in for the pre-chorus asserting, “All the girls stare at me, drop lip / Dripping in harmony, like Fifth.” Hmm, she then, alongside Tove, drops the ‘filter-less’ hook:

“Bitches, I don’t trust ‘em / But they give me what I want for the night / Bitches, I don’t trust ‘em / But I tell ‘em and they do what I like.”

OMG.  Icona Pop arrives for the second verse, ending with a bang: “So, baby, spread your legs, I’ll do the same, already cumming.” On the third verse, Elliphant and ALMA trade solo lines, while they also perform together alongside Tove Lo.

Final Thoughts

So, what does one make of this record? Hmm, that’s a great question.  There’s nothing wrong with Tove Lo being open about sexuality in the least.  To each his or her own.  That said, this track is definitely overbearing and heavy-handed with its sex and language.  It’s certainly not far-fetched for Tove Lo – that’s the musical persona she’s assumed.  But, if ‘in-your-face’ isn’t your thing, this won’t be for you.  If you don’t mind ample edge, then come on down, you’ll eat up this remix.
