Tory Lanez, Memories Don't Die © InterscopeCanadian rapper-singer Tory Lanez returns with “B.I.D,” the fourth advance single from his sophomore album, ‘Memories Don’t Die.’ The theme? Drunk sex.

“Jumped in the ‘What the f*ck is that’ / Took a shot of Henny out the back / Girl you know it’s real, I ain’t tryna brag / I just wanna take you to the back while you let a n***a…” We’ll complete the line later. Anyways, Canadian rapper-singer Tory Lanez is officially back. His sophomore album, Memories Don’t Die, arrives March 2, 2018. Before announcing the project, Lanez dropped a number of singles including “Shooters”, “Skrt Skrt”, and “Real Thing” (featuring Future).  “B.I.D” serves as the fourth advance single from Memories Don’t Die. Here are some observations about “B.I.D.”

As cliché as it may be, “B.I.D” features slick production work, exemplifying the hip-hop/urban contemporary sound of recent times. In regards to his performance, Tory Lanez in in pop-rap mode.  For the most part, he resides in his middle register.  Still, there’s the occasional dash of falsetto, adding character.  Lanez’ approach is hard-nosed and tough-minded, chocked full of swagger. That said, the concept is simple: drunk sex.  Nothing deep or the least bit transcendent about that. Completing the aforementioned lyrical line:

“…Bust it, down, bust it, down / Bust it, down, oh yeah / Bust it, down, bust it, down / Bust it, down, oh yeah, yeah.”

Again, drunk sex.

Final Thoughts

How does “B.I.D” – Bust it Down – stack up? Meh.  It’s enjoyable enough – okay. Fans of Tory Lanez will be pleased, but otherwise, the artist plays up clichés.  Been there, done that.
