Thomas Rhett continues to integrate pop into his music on โ€œLook What God Made Her Do,โ€ the second advance single from Center Point Road.

โ€œDonโ€™t even want attention / But yeah, thatโ€™s all sheโ€™s getting / Her song is on and sheโ€™s spinning around, yeah.โ€ Grammy-nominated contemporary country singer Thomas Rhett is definitely NOT your fatherโ€™s country musician.ย  Rhett is among the new breed of country musicians willing to experiment and integrate and fuse a number of different styles.ย  Thatโ€™s exactly what he did on โ€œDonโ€™t Threaten Me with a Good Timeโ€, the promo single from his highly-anticipated fourth studio album, Center Point Road (June 2, 2019). Once again, Rhett goes โ€˜against the grainโ€™ on โ€œLook What God Gave Her,โ€ the second advance single from Center Point Road.

โ€œLook What God Gave Herโ€ blends contemporary country and modern pop. The result is a very sleekly produced record. As always, Thomas Rhett delivers beautiful vocals that are ultimately well-produced. A relatively quick-paced record, Rhett manages to keep things brief, clocking in under three-minutes.ย  Furthermore, despite integrating those pop sounds, regarding the form, โ€œLook What Gave Herโ€ is pretty straightforward โ€“ instrumental intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorusโ€ฆ bridge, chorus. The pre-chorus is short, but a solid lead-in to the chorus:

โ€œAnd those eyes can hypnotize
Was designed to blow my mind.โ€

The chorus is memorable, with some โ€˜swaggerโ€™ about it โ€“ rhythmically, it embraces a โ€˜hip-hop identity,โ€™ while remaining idiomatic of country music. ย Rhett serves up some excellent ad-libs towards the end without ever over-singing or growing overindulgent.

โ€œLook what God gave her, how perfect he made her
She walks in the room, itโ€™s like he answered my prayers
The way that she moves, how could anybody blame her?
I know sheโ€™s got haters, but it ainโ€™t her fault, nah
Look what God gave her.โ€

Final Thoughts

All in all, Thomas Rhett is onto something with โ€œLook What God Gave Her.โ€ No, he doesnโ€™t reinvent the wheel, but he is among the more open-minded musicians reinventing country beyond its traditional fan base.ย  Does everything he does always work? No, but, he has some worthwhile ideas and heโ€™s unafraid to try them. Kudos.
