โWhenever youโre near, I hear a symphony.โ The vibes, the vibes, those Throwback Vibez ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ! Throwback Vibez ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ is a column that celebrates awesome songs from the past.ย The records that grace this column are older, but that doesnโt necessarily mean that theyโre ancient โ no fossils ๐ฆด! All genres of music are welcome. In the 29th edition of Throwback Vibez ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ (2023), we recollect and reflect on ๐ต โI Hear A Symphonyโ, performed by iconic Motown girl group, ๐ The Supremes.ย
โYouโve given me a true love / And every day, I thank you, love.โ Oh, how sweet! ๐ The Supremes delivered a surefire, soul classic with ๐ต โI Hear A Symphonyโ (๐ฟ I Hear A Symphony, 1966).ย โI Hear A Symphonyโ was sweet music to the ears of pop and soul enthusiasts alike in the mid-1960s.ย The exuberant, 1965 record about true love spent two weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The iconic Motown girl group, consisting of ๐ Diana Ross, ๐ Florence Ballard, and ๐ Mary Wilson, continues singing, in the opening section, โFor a feeling thatโs so new / So inviting, so exciting.โ Oh, love, in all its splendor!
Of course, the hook line is that legendary titular lyric: โWhenever youโre near, I hear a symphony.โ The Supremes follow it up with numerous poetic lines, such as โA tender melody / Pulling me closer, closer to your arms / Then suddenly (I hear a symphony) / Ooh, your lips are touching mineโฆโ ย and later, โI hear a tender rhapsody of love now, baby, baby.โ This Motown classic was not only performed by icons but written by the iconic collective, ๐ผ โ Holland-Dozier-Holland (Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Brian Holland). ย Brian and Dozier also produced this catchy gem.ย Sure, songs donโt sound like ๐ต โI Hear A Symphonyโ anymore but the nostalgia and the innocence of this love-driven number is refreshing in much more blunt and explicit times. Itโs sad that Diana Ross and The Supremes have failed to ever win a ๐ Grammy.
