Fifty Shades Freed © RepublicThe Spencer Lee Band shines on the edgy, sexed-up, “The Wolf,” the third teaser track released in advance of the soundtrack to ‘Fifty Shades Freed.’

“I wanna see you breathing / I got the windows steaming.” The career of The Spencer Lee Band is off to a fast, promising start.  After introducing themselves to the world with the superb “Kissing Tree,” they earn a spot on the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack with “The Wolf.” Safe to say, “The Wolf” is edgy, sexed-up, and arguably, the best teaser track from the soundtrack.

“The Wolf” commences with a refreshing pop-soul groove. After setting the tone instrumentally, Spencer Lee enters in with biting, commanding lead vocals. The vibe is sexual early on, with the innuendo ‘turned up to next level’ on the pre-chorus:

“I wanna jack it, smack it / You know the shit that turns you on? / I wanna lick it, kiss it / I’ll give you everything you want.”

Lee follows up the risqué pre-chorus with a catchy, continually soulful, if tamer chorus – no ‘stimulatory’ references. Still on the second verse, The Spencer Lee Band continue to amplify the horniness.

“I watch you burn this place to ashes / Move that ass / And raise a glass to how you love to misbehave, baby.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, The Spencer Lee Band are ‘on the way up.’ Two songs into their major label career they show ample potential.  “The Wolf” benefits from being both soulful and risqué.
