Pop collective The Chainsmokers return, highlighting Apple technology on their latest single, “iPad.”
“A
nd isn’t it strange how we’re strangers again?” Arguably, it’s a bit of a corny and silly line yet clever at the same time (did I just say that?). The lyric hails fromWritten by Pall and Taggart, the duo produces the cut alongside Ian Kirkpatrick. The sound is pleasant all in all – nothing revolutionary though. Still, this is a respectable backdrop that fits the aesthetic and vibe of the collective. On vocals, once again, is Drew, which like the duo’s music, has drawn mixed reviews. Like the song itself, I’d argue Mr. Taggart sounds fine – not the second coming, of course. So, what is “iPad” about? Love, basically. Look no further than the first verse:
“I go through your iPad looking for
Something that I used to have
Guess I finally lost my mind (Lost my mind)
I wish that I could take my number back
Go back to the place we met…”
My question is, why an iPad? Whatever, I suppose. I find the second verse interesting with the likes of “You were just a downtown socialite / Ship I pass on summer nights / Shadow that I can’t define…”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “iPad” is okay in my eyes. I’m not blown away or wowed, but at the same time, I’m not sure I’m The Chainsmokers’ core audience. Final verdict: No harm, no foul.
