Scanning the Charts (6/12/21): Taylor Swift returns to no. 1 with Evermore, while BTS spend a second week at no. 1 with โButter.โ
Well, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isnโt extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations from the Billboard 200 , and FIVE observations from the Billboard Hot 100
, with
Taylor Swift returning to no. 1 with
Evermore, while BTS spend a second week at no. 1 with the buttery smooth,
โButterโ.
Billboard 200
Move over
Olivia Rodrigo (
SOUR )! Taylor Swift returns to the top of the Billboard 200 (ascending all the way from no. 74 to no. 1) with her critically acclaimed second surprise LP of 2020,
Evermore. Worth noting, the return to no. 1 comes in Evermoreโs 25th week on the charts. Also, it didnโt do puny numbers โ it moved 202,000 units according to Keith Caulfield! As for Rodrigo, she still has a sizable second week with SOUR in the runner-up spot.
DMX sees his posthumous album,
Exodus launch at no. 8. Exodus is the sole debut in the top-50 of the Billboard 200. Yikes! The next debut comes from
Blackberry Smoke courtesy of
You Hear Georgia at no. 55.
While
Evermore may be โgetting itโs shine onโ on the Billboard 200, Swiftโs 2021 album,
Fearless (Taylorโs Version), isnโt experiencing the same degree of love. The rerecorded version of her 2008 Grammy-winning album slides from no. 45 to no. 57 in only its 8th week on the charts. Of course, Fearless (Taylorโs Version) debuted at no. 1.
Continuing on a lackadaisical Billboard 200,
Sleepy Hallow secures a top-150 debut with
Still Sleep? at no. 144. Ugh โ totally NOT sexy, I know. Furthermore, itโs the final debut on the entirety of the 200-spot chart.
The Black Keys released a solid, enjoyable blues album with
Delta Kream. Unfortunately, it hasnโt been a commercial success. Delta Kream, which has spent a mere three weeks on the charts, started at no. 6, slipped to no. 102, and this week, slides to no. 187. Ouch!
Billboard Hot 100
BTS lockdown the no. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for the second consecutive week. Safe to say
โButterโ is a hit baby! Interestingly, like on the Billboard 200,
Olivia Rodrigo finds herself in the runner-up spot as
โgood 4 uโ spends its second consecutive week stuck behind the K-Pop band after debuting at no. 1.
Like the Billboard 200, the Hot 100 is a bore for the most part this week. The highest charting debut (no. 62 mind you) comes from
Eminem featuring
Jack Harlow and
Cordae on
โKiller.โ Not exactly igniting the chartsโฆ
Following Eminemโs debut, there are two more debuts in the 60s on the Hot 100.
Cochise and $NOT launch at no. 64 with
โTell Emโ while
Rauw Alejandro starts at no. 66 with
โTodo de Ti.โ
Country musician
Chase Rice gets some love at no. 75 with
โDrinkinโ Beer. Talkinโ God. Amenโ which features
Florida Georgia Line.
At no. 81,
Lil Baby and
Lil Durk see the title track of their collaborative album,
Voice of the Heroes bow.
