SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.Β I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.Β To reiterate what I said last week (Taylor Swift is Queen), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that π© moving.Β This week, I picked out five notable observations from the Billboard 200, as well as five observations from the Billboard Hot 100, highlighting Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, who reigns supreme atop the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 respectively. Billboard 200Β
π After a week in which Taylor Swift launched robustly at no. 1, folklore, earns a second week atop the Billboard 200, moving a more modest 135,000 units.
π Pop Smoke sees his former no. 1 album, Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, ascend from Β no. 4 to no 2.Β This marks the first week that Smoke has outperformed Juice WRLD (Legends Never Die), which remains no. 3.
π A couple of deluxe albums see a spike. DaBaby sees BLAME IT ON BABY rise from no. 11 to no. 6 with the DELUXE arriving Tuesday, August 4 (usually, new albums/deluxe arrive on Fridays). BeyoncΓ© sees The Lion King: The Gift reenter the Billboard 200 at no. 10, thanks to the release of the DELUXE version and the release of Black is King on Disney+.Β
π Brandy misses the top 10 with B7, her first new studio album in 8 years. B7 launches at no. 12 no the Billboard 200. Alanis Morrissette earns the final top-20 debut with Such Pretty Forks in the Road, which launches at no. 16.
π After a superb first week, Logic sees his purported final studio album, No Pressure, slide from no. 2 to no. 31. Ouch!
Billboard Hot 100
π On the Billboard Hot 100, Harry Styles earns his first no. 1 single with βWatermelon Sugarβ (ascends from no. 7 to no. 1). Last weekβs no. 1, βcardiganβ by Taylor Swift, slips to no. 8.
π Billie Eilish debuts at no. 6 with her latest single, βMy Futureβ.
π A$AP Ferg launches at no. 19 with βMove Ya Hipsβ featuring Nicki Minaj and MadeinTYO.
π Dan + Shay debut at no. 43 with their pop-infused country single, βI Should Probably Go to Bedβ.
