Steve Angello returns with a compelling new single, “Nothing Scares Me Anymore.” On “Nothing Scares Me Anymore,” the Swedish-Greek DJ/producer enlists singer Sam Martin for the assist. The record commences with a ticking clock, which continues as cello enters the mix. Strings play a huge role on this record. Martin delivers lovely, commanding vocals as he enters in atop the ticking clock and robust low-strings accompaniment. The darkness of the record, coupled with minor key, is nothing short of stunning.

The chorus adds rhythmic, percussion (marching snare specifically) to the mix, keeping things interesting. The post-chorus welcomes an ‘electronic sound,’ contrasting the record compared to early-on. Even with more electronic touches, strings – associated more with a classical script – continue to be “kind of a big deal.” Specifically, the use of upper strings shine. After the initial verse where Martin sounds the most natural, we lose a bit of his voice to the production. That said, it’s nitpicking mostly.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Steve Angello delivers another enjoyable, well-rounded record with “Nothing Scares Me Anymore.” The production is the crowning achievement, as it should be in the hands of a skilled producer like Angello is. Sam Martin should also be commended for his vocals.
