Ah, you know what time it is! It’s 3 to 5 BOPS time – WOO! On 3 to 5 BOPS, it’s all about brevity and sweetness… for the most part! There’s a theme/topic, 3, 4, or 5 songs, and a blurb – two paragraphs at the most.  3 to 5 BOPS is a mini playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  In the 3rd edition of 5ive Songs (2023), we select songs that are associated with the SHOWER 🚿 in some form or fashion. The BOPS arrive courtesy of 🎙 Ashe, 🎙 Becky G, 🎙 Chance The Rapper, 🎙 LMFAO, and 🎙 Zak James. Okay, let’s get into it!

1. Ashe, “Shower With My Clothes On”

💿 Rae • 🏷 Mom+Pop • 📅 2022

Ashe, Rae [📷: Mom+Pop]“Wish that something made sense / Wish I wasn’t a mess,” 🎙 Ashe sings in the pre-chorus of 🎵 “Shower With My Clothes On.” The single appears as the fourth track on her 2022 sophomore album, 💿 Rae. She penned “Shower” alongside 🎼 ✍ Andrew Haas, Ian Franzino, and John Ryan. Ryan also produces this stunning gem alongside 🎛 AFTERHRS and Big Taste (Leroy Clampitt). Ashe goes on to sing emotionally in the chorus of the ballad, “I don’t know how to feel / I’m out of my mind / All the color’s out of my face /…I’ve been missing you for so long / Listening to our song / In the shower with my clothes on.” So, the reason why she’s showering with her clothes on is because of being in a state of depression and sheer lostness.  The lyrics are reflective and honest.  At one point, she asserts, “I keep feelin’ the world spin / I’ma fallen leaf in April in the Santa Ana winds / California’s a bitch.” Sigh, Cali always gets a bad rap, doesn’t it? What isn’t bad is “Shower With My Clothes On” where Ashe’s displeasure our listening pleasure, particularly her expressive, gifted pipes. A surefire vibe!

2. Zak James, “Sing In The Shower”

🎵 “Shower” • 🏷 Zak James • 📅 2017

Zak James, "Sing In The Shower" [📷: Zak James]“Wake up feeling like a billion dollars / Like I ain’t got no problems / That song we sing in the shower / And it’s like whoa, oh, we gone dance like nobody’s watching.” Woo! 🎙 Zak James flexes, delivering a surefire vibe on his groovy, 2017 single, 🎵 “Shower.” “Shower” is nothing short of a vibe, with its bright, groovy backdrop and cool, but potent confidence from James.  Take a look at the single cover art and you can feel his energy and spirit, not to mention his dashing good looks (just saying 😍). Of course, we get some profanity in the mix, with no shortage of mf bombs during the verses. “Don’t want to stress about this about that / I’ve been chillin’ kickin’ back / Mothafucker I ain’t worried about a thing,” he asserts in the first verse, adding in the second, “I’ve been trying to be myself / Mothafucker, I’ve been doing my thing.” Word. What more is there to be said but #BIG MOOD!

3. Chance The Rapper, “Hot Shower” (Ft. MadeinTYO & DaBaby)

💿 The Big Day • 🏷 Chance The Rapper LLC • 📅 2019

Chance the Rapper, The Big Day [📷: Chance the Rapper]“I got muscles like Superman’s trainer, ayy (Ooh) / Real real rare like Super Saiyan manga.” #FLEX 💪! 🎵 “Hot Shower” serves as a highlight from 💿 The Big Day, the polarizing debut album by 🏆 Grammy winner, 🎙 Chance The Rapper.  Here, Chance The Rapper spits over a minimalist, banging beat, produced by himself and 🎛 Smoko Ono. He delivers an incredibly playful performance, much like the excerpted lyrics suggest.  If nothing else, his energy is appreciated, particularly his emphasis on certain words, specifically ‘dude’: “Dude, I just called the plug, and his phone was unplugged / I was lookin’ at Doug like / Dude, that shit don’t even make no fucking sense.” 🎙 MadeinTYO and 🎙 DaBaby guest, with DaBaby earning the honors of best overall verse (before he showed he was a homophobic asshole). Even so, he does rap about controversies prior to his infamous HIV comments: “Goddamn / I think I got a new lawsuit, I need to come see you.”

4. Becky G, “Shower”

🎵 “Shower” • 🏷 Kemosabe • 📅 2014

Becky G, “Shower”[📷: Kemosabe]“Ain’t no words to describe you, baby / All I know is that you take me high / Can you tell that you drive me crazy? / ‘Cause I can’t get you out my mind.” Woo! Boys, girls, men, and women everywhere, wave your hand in the air if you can relate to what 🎙 Becky G is singing! Beautiful strings commence the 2014 Becky G joint, 🎵 “Shower.” That lush, legato sound is short-lived, however, as soon enough,  “Shower” flexes its musical muscles 💪, showing its ‘lit-ness’ with a banging beat 💯. The production arrives courtesy of 🎛 Dr. Luke and Cirkut – a formidable team to say the least. Becky G exhibits no shortage of personality as her lover has her so happy that she’s “dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower / La-da-dee, la-da-da, la-da-da.” The chorus is the centerpiece – the catchiest, most memorable moment of this happy, totally infatuated  record. Love’ll make you do that though!

5. LMFAO, “Champagne Showers” (Ft. Natalia Kills)

💿 Sorry for Party Rocking🏷 Interscope • 🗓 2011

LMFAO, Sorry for Party Rocking [📷: Interscope]🎙 LMFAO had some hits – back in the year of our lord, 2011, that is. 🎵 “Champagne Showers” is one of those hits. “Champagne Showers” benefits from its driving dance groove. The production overall is exceptional – slick and colorful by all means.  From a vocal perspective, featured guest 🎙 Natalia Kills has some interesting vocal effects and auto-tune going on.  It fits the electro-pop backdrop and vibe cultivated by the duo.  Her key lyric is the pre-chorus/pre-hook where she asserts, “We’re gonna get you wet/ We’re gonna make you sweat / A night you won’t forget/ Are you ready for…”  She definitely sets up the the crowning achievement – the chorus!

“Champagne Showers

Champagne showers

Pop it in the club

We light it up every hour

I said

Champagne Showers

Champagne Showers

We pop, pop, pop it in the club

We light it up every hour, every hour…”

Is this song utterly ridiculous? Of course, it is! Let’s not forget, the group’s name is LMFAO after all!
