nnuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word:  SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  On the 12th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “Good for You” by 🎙 Selena Gomez featuring 🎙 A$AP Rocky.

Theme & Lyrics

Bitmoji Image“Now you say I got a touch / So good, so good / Make you never wanna leave / So don’t, so don’t.” Ooh-la-la, 🎙 Selena Gomez! 🎵 “Good for You” is a surefire gem from Gomez’s 2015 album, 💿 Revival.  I’d argue that this record ranks among the crème de la crème of her career.  Why does it stand out, you ask? Well, in case the excerpted lyrics didn’t speak for themselves, “Good for You” is titillating.  It doesn’t ‘overstep boundaries’ like some of our After Dark 🕛 🌃 entries, but it is S-E-X-Y.

Bitmoji ImageThematically, Selena ensures her sex appeal is on-point, period.  Even with her cooing, low-key vocals, steaminess is amplified: “Gonna wear that dress you like, skin-tight / Do my hair up real, real nice / And syncopate my skin to your heart beating.” Woo! On the chorus, Gomez adds, “Let me show you how proud I am to be yours / Leave this dress a mess on the floor / And still look good for you, good for you.” Now that’s hot! Certainly, the talented writing team gets the job done: Gomez, featured guest, 🎙 🎼✍ A$AP Rocky, 🎼✍ Julia Michaels, 🎼✍ Justin Tranter, 🎼✍ Nolan Lambroza, 🎼✍ Héctor Delgado, and 🎼✍ Nick Monson.  Rocky, Monson, Lambroza, and Delgado all serve as producers on the track too. Speaking of A$AP Rocky, Gomez gets a strong verse from the New York rapper which references Gomez’s ‘good girl’ image and expectedly, gets sexual:

“Hold on, take a minute, love

Cause I ain’t trying to fuck your image up

Like we mess around in triple cuffs

Stumble ‘round town, pull your zipper up

… I ain’t trying to fuck your business up

And I ain’t trying to get you into stuff

But the way you touchin’ on me in the club

Rubbin’ on my miniature

John Hancock, fuck the signature

Any time I hit it, know she finna fall through.”

Woo!

Final Thoughts 💭

Bitmoji ImageTo reiterate, “Good for You” marks one of the best songs from the Selena Gomez collection.  It’s steamy and suggestive, yet, on her end of things, she’s still coming over as a ‘good girl.’ Would we have it any other way? A$AP Rocky spices things up, yet still acknowledges Selena is, well, GOOD! Regardless, “Good for You” has just enough to earn a spot in After Dark 🕛 🌃.
