“I mean that’s bitch shit / Faking like you got it in your pockets, yeah, that’s bitch shit / Talking to them hoes, you steady gossip, yeah, that’s bitch shit.” Well, we’ve established that ScHoolboy Q is calling out boys… and who wants to be called names, particularly a guy being called a bitch? The hard-nosed rapper is back, following a three-year hiatus.  Yes, last time we heard from the West Coast rapper was the edgy, Grammy-nominated Blank Face LP, which was released in 2016.  The comeback is a brief one, with single “Numb Numb Juice” running less than two minutes in duration. Doesn’t matter ultimately – it’s good stuff!

“Two-door coupe, hoppin’ out like Jack-in-the Box, n*gga / I’m gon’ shoot if this 30’s all that I got, n*gga.” Okay then… Even with just two minutes, ScHoolboy Q manages to do work – shocker, right?  He’s backed by a minimalist, hella malicious-sounding backdrop.  This is perfect fuel for the grimy fire of the rapper, who’s profane and unapologetic. What does he rap about? Mostly violence, specifically shooting, fakes… “gangsta shit” you might say.  Q has been there and done that but remains as potent as ever.  After introducing the chorus at beginning of the song on the intro (“Two-door coupe…”), the listener gets the full effect at the very end of the record.  The aforementioned section where all the ‘bitching’ occurs is a refrain of sorts, only occurring once.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Numb Numb Juice” is a respectable comeback for ScHoolboy Q.  It’s brief, but definitely potent and worthwhile.  It doesn’t change the trajectory of the rapper, or necessarily expand his fan base, but again, it’s definitely good stuff.  The next steps for the Grammy-nominated rapper – more song and potentially, expand the script more on his forthcoming singles and album.  Still, this “Juice” definitely suffices.
