Ray Charles, The Genius of Ray Charles [๐Ÿ“ท: Atlantic]โ€œIโ€™m gonna love you like no oneโ€™s loved you / Come rain or come shineโ€ฆโ€ The late, great ๐ŸŽ™ Ray Charles concludes his 1959 album, ๐Ÿ’ฟ The Genius of Ray Charles, with a surefire classic: ๐ŸŽต โ€œCome Rain or Come Shineโ€. โ€œโ€ฆ High as a mountain, deep as a river / Come rain or come shine.โ€ The song predates Charlesโ€™ stirring rendition, penned by ๐ŸŽผ โœ Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer in 1946 for the Broadway music, St. Louis Woman.ย  And oft-covered standard, Charles truly made โ€œCome Rain or Come Shineโ€ his own given his signature, high-flying, bluesy vocals. Itโ€™s easy to buy what he sells as he makes it crystal clear through good and bad he will ALWAYS love you!

โ€œDays may be cloudy or sunny

Weโ€™re in or are we out of the money?

Yeah, but Iโ€™m with you always

Iโ€™m with you rain or shine.โ€

classicFurthermore, the iconic, prodigious blind musicianโ€™s pianistic chops equally allure. Beyond his own top-notch musicianship, Charlesโ€™ supporting cast are marvelous too.ย  The orchestra is arranged superbly by Ralph Burns.ย  This encompasses strings, chilling backing vocals, and of course, the wind instruments, including the prominently featured trombone. The orchestration is colorful, complementing and providing Ray with plenty of fuel for the fire.ย  The music speaks for itself on ๐ŸŽต โ€œCome Rain or Come Shineโ€ โ€“ no extensive analysis necessary.ย  Ray Charles was a one of a kind, once-in-a-lifetime musician.ย  Furthermore, this modest pop hit (no. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100) is one of the legendary, 17-time ๐Ÿ† Grammy-winning musicianโ€™s timeless classics.
