W
ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isnβt extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out SIX notable observations from the Billboard 200Billboard 200
The late
Pop Smoke finds himself in a familiar spot β no. 1. Thatβs right, his second posthumous album,
Faith, debuts atop the Billboard 200. Worth noting, Smokeβs double platinum, posthumous debut album,
Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, ascends from no. 11 to no. 9 in its 55th week on the charts.
Smoke bounces
Olivia Rodrigo from the top spot, where her platinum certified debut
SOUR spent four nonconsecutive weeks at no. 1. This week, it slips to no. 3.
Just behind Pop Smoke,
John Mayer debuts at no. 2 with his first album in four years,
Sob Rock. Sob Rock bumped
Doja Cat and
Planet Her out of the runner-up spot. Planet Her spent its first three weeks at no. 2. This week, it dips to no. 4.
Clairo sees her critically acclaimed sophomore album,
Sling, debut at no. 17. Sling outperforms her debut album,
Immunity, which debuted more modestly at no. 51 in 2019.
Dee Gees /
Foo Fighters earn a top 30 debut with
Hail Satin (no. 27). Cracking the top 50 are
WILLOW (
Lately I Feel Everything, no. 46),
Tedeschi Trucks Band featuring
Trey Anastasio (
Layla Revisited β Live at Lockinβ, no. 47), and
ILLENIUM (
Fallen Embers, no. 49).
Worth noting,
KSI (of YouTube fame) debuts at no. 94 with
All Over the Place. Also,
Tones And I bows at no. 144 with
Welcome to the Madhouse.
Billboard Hot 100
BTS have a lock on the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. After
βPermission to Danceβ debuted at no. 1 last week, it dips to no. 7.
βButterβ, which dropped from no. 1 to no. 7 last week, returns to no. 1 this week!
Normani brings her
βWild Sideβ to the top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100. The sexy, risquΓ© single featuring
Cardi B bows at no. 14.
In addition to his earning a second no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 (
Faith),
Pop Smoke also earns some debuts on the Hot 100. These debuts include
βTell The Visionβ (no. 49) and
βBout a Millionβ (no. 54).
Trippie Redd, assisted by
Lil Uzi Vert, debuts at no. 50 with
βHoly Smokes.β
Dua Lipa debuts at no. 89 with
βLove Again,β a highlight from her platinum certified, Grammy winning pop album,
