Paul McCartney, Egypt Station [Photo Credit: Capitol]Musical icon Paul McCartney comes back in spirited fashion on “Come on to Me,” one of two promo singles from his 17th studio album, Egypt Station.

I nearly fell over when I saw that a new Paul McCartney album was arriving in September 2018.  That’s right, the 76-year old musical icon is releasing a brand-new album – his 17th solo albumEgypt Station.  Not only that, McCartney had everybody talking with his Carpool Karaoke with James Corden.  Clearly, the magic is still alive with Paul, and he shares that magic with us all on “I Don’t Know” as well as the single at hand, “Come on to Me.”

“I saw you flash a smile, that seemed to me to say / You wanted so much more than casual conversation.” Ooh la la! “Come on to Me” is the more upbeat and rock-oriented compared to “I Don’t Know.” Set in a major key, “Come to Me” begins energetically, anchored by its driving groove. Beyond the groove, Sir Paul McCartney definitely sounds nowhere near his 76 years.  No, he sounds like a man much younger, still chocked-full of spunk, with plenty of musical goodness to offer.  That’s fitting given the flirty, tongue-n-cheek nature of the record, exemplified on the refrain following the chorus, with its utterly silly, repetitive “do’s.” Adding to the goodness (as if the aforementioned weren’t enough) are spirited horns that arrive later on.

Final Thoughts

Once AGAIN, give Paul McCartney credit – he didn’t have to release a new project at this point in his life or career.  That said, “Come on to Me,” like “I Don’t Know” suggests that Egypt Station will be a must-listen upon its September 2018 release.  Sir Paul sounds incredible in his mid-seventies.
