Party 🎉: 3 to 5 BOPS No. 36 (2023) [📷: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Zachary DeBottis via Pexels] Party 🎉: 3 to 5 BOPS No. 36 (2023), features musical BOPS courtesy of August Alsina, Bad Bunny, DJ Khaled, JORDY, and The 1975.

Ah, you know what time it is! It’s 3 to 5 BOPS time – WOO! On 3 to 5 BOPS, it’s all about brevity and sweetness… for the most part! There’s a theme/topic, 3, 4, or 5 songs, and a blurb – two paragraphs or less.  3 to 5 BOPS, hence, is a mini playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  In the 36th edition of 3 to 5 BOPS (2023), we select songs that are associated with PARTY 🎉 in some form or fashion. The BOPS arrive courtesy of 🎙 August Alsina, 🎙 Bad Bunny, 🎙 DJ Khaled, 🎙 JORDY, and 🎙 The 1975. Okay, let’s get into it!

1. JORDY, “Hypothetical Party”

💿 Boy🏷 300 Entertainment • 🗓 2023

JORDY, BOY [📷: 300 Entertainment]Post boy story, in the context of his 2023 album, 💿 BOY, Pop artist 🎙 JORDY has a 🎵 “Hypothetical Party” – WOO (a slick hypothetical party for that matter)! This party, however, isn’t particularly lit 🚫 🔥.  The self-described “extroverted introvert” is at the crib, basically.  “I wanna go to a party where it’s quiet / Where nobody’s around and I’m fine.” Say what? “A hypothetical party, I’m a riot / Home in bed by like ten forty-five…”  Again, so much of BOY deals with JORDY’s perceived lack of maturity, yet, he seems to grow and mature nonetheless, particularly as he seeks to avoid superficiality and potential toxicity.  To all the introverts in the world, we can rock with this party 🤘 🎉!

2. Bad Bunny, “Party” (Ft. Rauw Alejandro)

💿 Un Verano Sin Ti 🏷 Rimas Entertainment 📅 2022

Bad Bunny, Un Verano Sin Ti [📷: Rimas Entertainment]“Te tengo el toto sentimental, uh / El panty moja’o.” Say what? Well, along the lines of “I’ve made your pussy sentimental, uh / And your panties are wet” 🤯 🤯 🤯!!! With 🏆 Grammy winner, 🎙 Bad Bunny 😍 and 🎙 Rauw Alejandro 😍 in the house, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 is well represented. Who wouldn’t want to have a 🎵 “Party” with these two sexy, and most importantly, talented men? On 💿 Un Verano Sin Ti, they link up musically with fabulous results.  Backed by production by 🎛 Richi López, La Paciencia, Albert Hype, Tainy, and Jota Rosa, Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro ‘get it in,’ if you catch my drift 🍆 ✌🏻. The temperature 🌡️ is rising, among other things…

In the pre-coro [pre-chorus], Rauw paints a picture of this girl seeking to lose her cool and party – smoking, no strings attached, and vibing.  It sets up the first verse, where Bad Bunny admires how fine she is, and, expectedly, thinks with his pants 😈. Similarly, Rauw picks up where he leaves off in the second verse, admiring her, and closing things out filthily: “Antes de que entre le escupe (Mami) / La puse a brincar y en la cama hicimo’ un— (¡Yah!).” Basically, they have sex, just in case you were wondering.  It’s clearly a #BODY PARTY 😈.

3. DJ Khaled, “PARTY” (Ft. Quavo & Takeoff)

💿 GOD DID 🏷 We The Best / Epic 📅 2022

DJ Khaled, God Did [📷: We The Best / Epic]“Party all the time, party all the time, party all the time.” WOO! Do those lyrics sound familiar? Well, they originally hail from the 1985 🎙 Eddie Murphy (!) hit, 🎵 “Party All the Time”, which spent three weeks at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.  On his 2022 song, 🎵 “PARTY” (💿 GOD DID), 🏆 Grammy winner 🎙 DJ Khaled heavily samples the one-hit wonder, and enlists the services of 🎙 Quavo and sadly 😢, the late 🎙 Takeoff for the bars. Khaled produced “PARTY” alongside 🎛 STREETRUNNER and Tarik Azzouz. In all honesty, it marks one of the better moments on the so-so GOD DID album.

Among the best moments of “PARTY” is the chorus, performed by Quavo: “God did, God did, I’m a witness (Woo) / I just sent fifty bottles to bitches (Woo) / Know the gang in the VIP, by the pendant (Su’) / Still in the meeting, be back in a minute.” Aw sheee-it! Quavo’s verse is electric, as are Takeoff’s, including turnt up bars like, “Put that shit on, I ain’t tryin’, ballin’ on NBA combine (Ball) / Steppin’ on niggas, it’s crunch time (Steppin’) / Eat up that pussy, it’s lunch time (Eat it) /… We party all night and she never forget it (Never forget it).” Clearly, there is a party at DJ Khaled’s crib! NO 🚫 CAP 🧢!

4. August Alsina, “Party”

💿 Myself 🏷 Shake the World / EMPIRE • 📅 2023

August Alsina, Myself, [📷: Shake the World / EMPIRE]“When we link, it’s a party!” Unfortunately, in the 2020s, R&B singer 🎙 August Alsina has drawn more attention for his infamous entanglement than his music.  Alsina did record a song about the ordeal, 🎵 “Entanglements”, but it pales in comparison to his best work.  Alsina is a talent, yet how many folks knew he released a new album in 2023, entitled, 💿 Myself? On the sixth track from Myself, Alsina has himself a 🎵 “Party” following days of being on the grind – WOO! Some highlights on this sensual two-and-a-half-minute joint include the pre-chorus, where August asserts, “Middle of the week, you fuckin’ with me, all night / Love you ‘til it hurt, now you late for work, it’s alright. Hmm, sounds like rough sex, and on hump day, mind you – feels right!  In the chorus, he makes it clear, “Girl you know, I can’t wait ‘til Friday / We gon’ party and catch vibes…” In the second verse, this party becomes far more sexual: “Kick back turned body party, yeah / Now I got that ass soundin’ like it’s applaudin’ (Now you) / Now you got that mouth soundin’ like, ‘Oh my God’ / It’s rainin’, girl, it’s pourin’.” Clearly, the sex is LIT 🔥.

5. The 1975, “The Birthday Party”

💿 Notes on a Conditional Form🏷 Interscope 📅 2020

The 1975, Notes on a Conditional Form [📷: Interscope]In the context of 💿 Notes on a Conditional Form, the fourth studio album by 🎙 The 1975, the British alternative collective, shifts stylistically on 🎵 “The Birthday Party.” “The Birthday Party” approaches five minutes in duration but proves that it is totally worthwhile.  Front man 🎙 Matthew Healy exhibits plenty of personality, with colorful, honest lyrics. “And I seen the girls and they were all like  / ‘Do you wanna come and get fucked up?’” he sings, continuing, “Listen, I got myself a missus, says there can’t be any kissing / ‘No, don’t be a fridge, you better wise up kid / It’s all Adderall now, it doesn’t make you wanna do it.’” “The Birthday Party” has an indie/alternative pop/rock sound that’s built on traditional rock instrumentation (guitars, bass, drums) with some additional tone color (keyboards, some horns, etc.).
