Norah Jones & Logic, “Fade Away” [📷: Capitol]Norah Jones and Bobby Hall – aka Logic – make sweet music together on the ‘Norah Jones is Playing Along Podcast ’ version of his hit, “Fade Away.”

“Yo, this is a vibe / You can’t hear this / Oh / Alright, let’s just, I’ll do these raps.” A vibe indeed.  That said, admit it, you NEVER expected 🎙 Norah Jones and 🎙 Logic (Bobby Hall) to collaborate. I certainly did not! Regardless, these two talented musicians make magic on a jazz reinterpretation of his hit, 🎵 “Fade Away” (💿 The Incredible True Story, 2015).  In the parenthesized portion of the song title, we get some context: From ‘Norah Jones is Playing Along’ Podcast. To quote a hip-hop classic, 🎵 “Whoomp! There It Is”!

Norah Jones & Logic, “Fade Away” [📷: Capitol]Jones accompanies Logic on the piano, providing an incredibly smooth, skillful, backdrop.  Given Logic’s ability to flow with ease over samples and old-school, vintage production, the fit is natural.  His cadence and overall flow isn’t the least bit compromised given Jones’ sophisticated performance on the keys.  Furthermore, she does not merely use those fingers, she also delivers those distinct, one-of-a-kind vocals, so popular in the aughts, on the chorus (“Ooh, fade away / Fade away / Oh, fade away”). Call it what it is – a vibe. And, oh, in case you were wondering, no, Logic does not censor himself – he is true to his f-bomb heavy, unapologetic rhymes and honestly, would we have it any other way?

Final Thoughts 💭

big moodReleasing 🎵 “Fade Away” as a single from the podcast was brilliant on Norah Jones’ part.  While this collaboration is totally unexpected, it works out well for both parties. Furthermore, it makes me tune into the podcast.
