Nicki Minaj returns, assisted by ubiquitous rapper Lil Baby on the confident banger, “Do We Have a Problem?”
“T
ell ‘em my niña, my bitch, she a rider / I got a shooter, and I got a driver.” Woo, she’s back! 🎙 Nicki Minaj, that is! Minaj teams up with fellow 🏆 Grammy-nominated rapper, 🎙 Lil Baby on her first, brand-new single in years (!), 🎵 “Do We Have a Problem?” Does “Do We Have a Problem?” find the queen reclaiming her crown? F#$k around and find out… or, just continue reading!“Do We Have a Problem?” is enigmatic sounding at the onset. It commences with a brief, spoken-word intro by Nicki (“I just told P, ‘This really niggas’ worst nightmare, man / They don’t wanna see Lil Baby with the Barbie’”). Soon enough, the production (🎛 Papi Yerr) settles in, and Minaj offers up a melodic chorus (excerpted above), which grows on you with later iterations:
“Tell ‘em my niña, my bitch, she a rider
I got a shooter, and I got a driver
They want that heat, I’m the only provider
Little bad foreign bitch, word to Fivio
Niggas know the vibe, that’s word to Five, yo
Beef, we ‘bout to resolve, yo
Pull up on a opp, do we have a problem?”
After showing off the gift of melody on the chorus, Minaj serves up un-pitched, tough, ‘gives no fucks’ rhymes in the first verse. She shouts out Pop Smoke and Juice WRLD, brags about drip, and is willing to do whatever “to get an opp back.” Lil Baby arrives in the second verse, providing a contrast. His verse settles in a bit more, though maybe it’s the fact that by this time, the listener has a better feel for the song. Like Minaj, Baby is nothing short of confident and of course, dripped-out. Minaj later drops a third verse, boasting more of the same.
Final Thoughts 💭
So, is 🎵 “Do We Have a Problem?” a banger? For the most part, yes. Both Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby bring toughness. That said, I find the track to be a bit odd. I wouldn’t call it surefire, but there’s some punch here, nonetheless.
