Nicki Minaj, once more assisted by Lil Baby, brings ample attitude and energy to the short but potent single, “Bussin.”
“V
VS’s bu-bu-bussin’ / Ass so fat, it’s bu-bu-bussin’ / Bag so full, it’s bu-bu-bussin’ / Drivin’ foreigns, bitches bussin’.” Woo! Clearly,“Bussin” features hard-hitting, minor-key production ( Swaggyono and
DJ Tizz). The sound is malicious, idiomatic of trap and hardcore rap. Nicki Minaj is unapologetic, giving no f#¢ks – NONE. It starts with the first verse where she goes in, notably asserting, “Tell these bitches, ‘Give my drip back’.” She also drops a gem when she spits, “It ain’t at the bus stop, but my niggas bust back.” Lil Baby handles much of the second, with select assistance from ‘Barbie.’ The modus operandi is toughness – going hard AF: “We run shit, no question / Bad lil bitch get wet, I’m bussin’ / Don’t like god boys, I like hustlers…” Nothing profound comes out of it, nor the third verse performed mostly by Nicki. Still, there’s no shortage of attitude and personality.
Final Thoughts
Is “Bussin” the second coming? No, but it’s another enjoyable, respectable single from Nicki Minaj. She doesn’t transform the game or anything but it’s ‘cute’ in a tough, bad@$$ sort of way. “Bussin” benefits from good production (again, not game-changing), attitude, and a memorable chorus. It’s no “Anaconda” but I’d argue there’s plenty of BDE!
