NF, Perception © Capitol26-year old Christian rapper NF shines on latest single, “Green Lights,” where he asserts he’s unstoppable – on fire.

Here’s a good question.  What makes Christian rap Christian rap? Does it require explicitly spreading the gospel, or does it mean the music is simply devoid of secular things? Honestly, it depends on who you ask and the rapper himself.  In the case of 26-year old Christian rapper NF on his new single, “Green Lights,” it’s more inspirational than explicitly Christian.  What’s surprising to many who have a certain perception of Christian rap is how much secular appeal it possesses.

There’s plenty to love about “Green Lights.” First of all, the production is excellent. Hard and malicious, it makes you ask the question, is this really a ‘Christian rap’ track?  NF has an excellent flow, which bodes well in his favor. Additionally, his rhymes are hard, biting, and aggressive.  Once more, the “is this Christian rap” question crosses the mind.  Yet another selling point is the hook, again, which is packs quite a punch.  Additionally, it’s quite catchy:

“All I see is green lights / All I see is green lights / All I spit is real life / Bet you don’t know what that’s like.”

So, beyond all the good things about “Green Lights,” what’s it about? NF, personally and professionally is on fire.  Again, while he is perhaps pigeonholed as a Christian rapper because of his clean lyrics, this topic is fairly commonplace.  The difference is, NF relies on his skill and persona as a rapper, without being profane or the least bit risqué.  He still showcases the same amount of confidence, but he doesn’t have to drop those bombs to make it happen.

Final Thoughts

Is “Green Lights” Christian? Well, God himself is never mentioned.  It’s most Christian in regards to its cleanliness, not so much its messaging.  Still, it’s inspirational as well as being chocked full of swagger.  Positive vibes, but still possessing edge, NF has a winner on his hands.  From my perspective, I see plenty of “green lights” for this talented MC.
