usic chart analysis, here we come! Scanning the Charts is exactly what it says it is.  We peruse – scan – through the Billboard Charts and pick out eye-catching happenings. Scanning the Charts isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, we list 5 observations from the Billboard 200 , and 5 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 . The biggest takeaways? Adele remains a force to be reckoned with on the Billboard 200, while Mariah Carey celebrated the most popular Christmas song of all time by spending another week at no. 1 on the Hot 100.  As for Nas? His second album of 2021, Magic, debuts modestly.

Billboard 200  

Adele spends a sixth consecutive week ↔ atop the Billboard 200. 30 continues to be a force to be reckoned with.

The soundtrack for Disney’s Encanto ascends from no. 110 to no. 7 in its fifth week on the Billboard 200.

The highest debut on the Billboard 200 arrives courtesy of Nas.  Magic, his second album of 2021, debuts at no. 27.

The second highest debut on the Billboard 200 is more surprising. Bobby Helms launches at no. 28 with The Classic Years: 1956-1962 at no. 28.

 

Another soundtrack, Sing 2, dints the Billboard 200 at no. 103.  Could it ascend in the future?

Billboard Hot 100  

Mariah Carey celebrates the most popular Christmas song of all time – “All I Want for Christmas is You” – by spending another week (an 8^th nonconsecutive week) at no. 1 on the Hot 100.

The Encanto cast – Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz – sees “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” launch at no. 50 on the Hot 100.

Jessica Darrow debuts at no. 54 with “Surface Pressure,” another song charting from the Encanto soundtrack.

Finally, the Ari Lennox masterpiece, “Pressure”, debuts at no. 94 on the Hot 100.

Country standout Sam Hunt debuts at no. 99 with his single, “23.”
