“I know you f***ing lying!” Like damn, bruh! Sis! C’mon! You thought it was bound to hit, but instead it was total shit – nothing but dookie 💩!  The songs that appear in The Flops didn’t hit, underperformed, or underwhelmed.  Flops are even more detrimental when the artist is considered a superstar and rarely misses the mark. Flops can even be successful, even if the quality sucked. Or maybe they’re not-so-bad, but they bombed on the charts.  This column highlights abject failure. In the 16th edition of The Flops (2026), we examine the questionable “Last Night,” recorded by Morgan Wallen.

“I know that last night, we let the liquor talk / I can’t remember everything we said, but we said it all.” BRUH 🤦‍♂️! Pulling this one out of the archives, I said it back in 2023, and I’ll say it again:  For the love of God, someone please explain why “Last Night” by Morgan Wallen was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 🥴?!  Adding insult to injury, tell me why the hell the pop-infused country single spent 16 weeks at number one, matching the iconic run of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day”! Surprising to the nth degree! Ella Langley experienced a historic, dominant run with “Choosin’ Texas” in 2026.  It was surprising given its historic 24-week run atop the charts, but “Choosin’ Texas” is far better and more memorable than “Last Night” could ever hope to be 😏. No disrespect or shade to the writers renowned for their pen and respective hits: John Byron, Charlie Handsome (Ryan Vojtesak), Hall of Famer Ashley Gorley (from my hometown of Danville, KY), and Jacob Kasher Hindlin.

Morgan Wallen, One Thing At A Time [📷: Big Loud]“Choosin’ Texas” is a prime example of a well-performed and well-written country song that deserved to top the pop charts. “Last Night” was not in the same league, yet it spent four months atop the pop charts! In its defense, “Last Night” is respectable – there have been far worse, truly egregious songs.  Still, relistening years after first scrutinizing it, I remain skeptical as to why it was such a dominant number one hit.  Perhaps it was because it was overplayed.  Wallen exploded and remains a chart fixture. Although a bad boy 😏, the East Tennessee singer has a nice voice in my opinion.  Does he always use it to make deep, meaningful songs? No. His albums are excessively long, aimed at streaming more than critical acclaim.  Also, to be fair, Wallen’s music isn’t aimed toward me, a more casual and picky country listener.  There were better country songs in 2023.  At least give him credit for the lyric, “I know you packed your shit and slammed the door right before you / But, baby, baby, something’s tellin’ me this ain’t over yet.” Woo! Plagiarizing myself once more, ‘My time spent with “Last Night” is indeed OVER, Mr. Wallen! It’s STILL A NO FOR ME!
